The meds have bad side affects that I have to deal with more often than the pain. The pain is minimized dramatically because of the meds. So i persevere. In my region there’s no surgery for it.
Anyone else have this and is there a simpler way to take meds for the pain without dealing with the side effects?
Thanks 😀

Trigeminal neuralgia is no joke, sis - I can't even imagine dealing with that pain. Props to you for toughing it out with the meds even though the side effects suck. A few thoughts on your situation:
- Have you looked into other medication options besides carbamazepine? Might be worth asking your doc if there's any alternatives that may have milder side effects for you to try.
- Some people find combinations of meds, like adding a low-dose antidepressant, can help manage both pain and side effect issues more effectively than one drug alone. Could be worth exploring.
- Alternative therapies like acupuncture, massage, chiropractic, etc are worth a shot too. Sometimes natural options paired with prescription meds have synergistic effects.
- As a last resort, maybe consult with doctors in another region to see if any will do the surgery? A change of scenery may open more healthcare opportunities.
Hoping you find some relief soon, sis! In the meantime make sure to take good care of yourself with self-care to balance all the medical stuff. You're a real warrior handling this - keep that strength up!
