Do our everyday life choices/factors contribute more to our anxiety/depression more than our bad experiences do?

Like if you’re not drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, eating properly etc can all that be the reason why a lot of people seem to be down and depressed and these days? It’s easy to blame it on life but life has been handing out bad experiences/trauma since the beginning of time. We’re human. We’re all bound to experience it Ian’s yet our ancestors still got up and fought everyday which leads me to believe the problem is how we choose to live rather than life itself causing most people mental instability.
