Tooth cracked 2 years ago?

I got popped in the jaw by my dogs head a few times when he was a puppy. Anyways, one day I noticed a tooth in that area was very sensitive to cold drinks. I gave it a couple days, but then it went away, so I didn't bother to see a dentist. fast forward 2 years later that whole tooth breaks in half. The shoddy dentist I went to scammed me and couldn't tell how long it was cracke or if it even was cracked, but they did say it had a cavity. Personally i think it cracked, then that's what caused the cavity, but why was it only sore and sensitive to temperature for a couple days, then fine after?

But then, I guess the crack didn't get any worse or the sensitivity went away on its own, so you just kind of forgot about it. And then, over those 2 years, the crack gradually got bigger and bigger until the whole tooth just ended up breaking in half.

It sucks that the dentist you went to couldn't really give you a clear answer on how long the tooth had been cracked. They probably should have been able to see some signs of it in the X-rays or something. But hey, at least they were able to identify the cavity - even if they couldn't pinpoint the original cause.

It's a bummer that you had to go through that whole ordeal, especially if the initial cracking was from your dog. Gotta watch out for those wild puppy heads, man! But at least you got it taken care of, even if the dentist wasn't the most helpful.

In the future, I'd definitely recommend getting any weird tooth sensitivity or pain checked out right away, just to be safe. Little stuff like that can sometimes turn into bigger, more expensive problems down the line if you don't stay on top of it. Live and learn, dude!

It's not taken care of. They couldn't do anything. It's a pre molar. I'm just going to have it pulled one of these days.

I did a little research and a pre molar is another one of those teeth they commonly pull to make more room, so I guess I got lucky in that sense. The options were either a root canal or pull it. They did refer me to a surgeon to pull it, but I'm not going to anyone those morons recommend

Good call on not going with the surgeon they referred you to - sounds like those guys were a bunch of scammers if they couldn't even properly diagnose the issue in the first place. You definitely don't want to trust them to handle the extraction.

Yeah we probably could have taken them both out years ago and it would have made it so two of my front teeth aren't sticking outwards. I just have to go back to square one, but I just make sure they stay brushed good now and swish hydrogen peroxide around a couple times a week. I need to get some more of that stuff.

I think it's like $200 to pull it vs like 3500 for a root canal and crown

It was probably a minor cavity at the time, but the cracked tooth would make it more prone to cause a cavity to worsen because food debri and bacteria would build up into it and I guess cause it to be more weak over time

I have a small cavity on one of my back molars but the doctor said I didn’t need a filling unless it got worse and wasn’t “flat” anymore.. whatever that means

I don't see why he couldn't just fill it then. My teeth were all sealed as soon as the permanent teeth all came in so I haven't had a cavity since I was like 9. So I'm kind of skeptical if that one dentist I went to because they only did basic stuff like cleanings and I was pissed because I told them straight up on the phone the tooth busted off and they still had me come in only to tell me they couldn't fix it, but I would get it filled while it's small. Doubt it would be more than a couple hundred bucks.
