Do you actually go to the referral your doctor recommends, or do you choose your own specialist?

Like in my case the dentist referred me to both an endodontist and an oral surgeon. Honestly, I'm beginning to see the rabbit hole this is about to go down. Do I save any money by honoring a referral or can I just go see someone I pick out myself based on reviews? Personally I kind of think they give each other a cut for referrals, and I don't know. I kind of like to get an unbiased opinion without saying went here and they said I need all this work done. I prefer not to say anything and let them make their own recommendations. Honestly, I just want my damn tooth pulled and move on with life. I feel like a woman who just went to the mechanics shop and got ripped off. Trust me they get ripped off big time.

Totally get you... Honestly, you can choose your own specialist.. you're not locked into referrals. Referrals are often convenient, but yeah, sometimes there's a bit of a network vibe going on. If you feel unsure, it's smart to get a second opinion without saying what the first one told you. Let them assess it fresh. And nope, you don’t usually save money just by following a referral unless your insurance specifically requires it. If all you want is the tooth out, just be upfront about that with the next dentist. My doctor is one of my best friends, so whatever she says, works for me. She has never been wrong yet.
