Can just anyone in the US be deported to anywhere for any reason - or for no reason?

No. Deportation means sending away someone who shouldn’t be here for a given reason, usually based on naturalization or citizenship status. Typically they are sent to wherever they came from, but sometimes that’s not exactly feasible.
If you can prove your citizenship or naturalization status, we’re pretty much stuck with you regardless of how deplorable you might be. I don’t think this country ever practiced exile or banishment as a punishment for antisocial or criminal behavior.
I wouldn’t be opposed to it. Australia’s caucasian population began as a British penal colony, and some of the UK’s finest were sent to the American colonies in exile.

The problem with modern day banishment is once you establish that a person is such a bad actor that you can’t even have them in your state or country, what others would accept them? They’re actually having the same problem with deportation right now. Nobody wants their criminals and deadbeats back. Who can blame them?

Well actually there has to be one qualification apparently and that is Trump has to dislike the color of their skin. Or their politics. Or just them in general. But it's really all about what Trump likes and dislikes. The fact that that is a complete violation of the Constitution is of course now meaningless.

@exitseven Illegal aliens aren't allowed to vote nor are green card holders. You have to be a citizen to vote.

@Caroline91 Yes that is the law. However in the state of Virginia there were illegal aliens registered to vote and the Supreme Court had to rule so that the voter rolls could be purged. I won't even get into the mess that is the voting regulations in the state that I live in.

@exitseven Right. But note it says "suspected" but doesn't explain on what basis those voter registrations were suspicious. In the other article it explains there is actually an issue with the voter registration form that causes some people to not notice the section where you check that you are a citizen. Depending on the state a person may or may not need to show proof of citizenship when registering. I think everyone should be required to show proof in order to register to vote. But, regardless, other investigations have shown that there is actually a very low number of non citizens who actually manage to vote and In the case of non-citizens who vote illegally, they face potential deportation and revocation of legal status.

@Caroline91 I live in a Democrat run state. The legislature voted to give illegal aliens free drivers licenses. The Sec of State runs a TV spot that says that all you need to register to vote is a drivers license. The few Republican members of the legislature wanted to have a special designation on the drivers license but the democrats screamed that it was racist.
Even though it is illegal for them to vote there is now no way to stop it. And once the ballot ends up in the ballot box there is no way to determine which ballot is legitimate and which one is not. Then the politicians and fake news keep screaming that Trump will deport them all, which is actually true, and that will be just the motivation that they need.

You worry about this so much because of the basic unpopularity of Republicans among most people. If your ideas were popular you wouldn't need to worry. But they aren't.

If the Republicans are so unpopular, why did Trump win so decisively? He is polling at the highest levels in recent history and has the majority of the country supporting him.
His supporters do not make the news because they do not burn police cars or shoot at ICE agents. They just show up at the polling places.
