How painful are your headaches get if you get them?
How often?
My headaches can get debilitating aka I get migraines. Photosensitivity, noise sensitivity, when you're trying to sleep it off the migraine it's so hard to go to sleep because it feels like you're continuously being hit on the head with a hammer while you're pillow feels like a concrete block, throwing up the whole shebang! Oh I hate throwing up with a migraine makes the throbbing so much worse! And the whole aura before it starts makes me feel nauseous (negative association I guess) cause it's like "You ready? You ready for it? ha ha ha! You're going to wish you were dead in about 30mins"
How often? Depending. If I've got a full stack of Nurofen Plus - never :D but when I was eating too much candy I'd get them a couple times a week. When I was doing circuit training and had low iron (tbh I don't know if this caused it but this is what I knew was wrong) I would get a migraine after I'd workout (talk about deterrent!), if I have too much caffeine (I know right! But I'm talking about A LOT) then I get a migraine that day.
I get migraines, although not too often. But when I do get them, they last for a few days, and I'm in so much pain that I can't even move. Like, movement, noise and light all make it worse. I also get neck pain when I have a migraine. They started when I was little, but now they're mostly caused by me clenching my jaw when I sleep (TMJ Syndrome), and that usually happens if I'm stressed or upset. I mean, I clench my teeth every night now regardless, but it's worse if I'm stressed out or upset by something. And the jaw pain results in a headache, and sometimes turns into a full blown migraine.
i get some random mean ass migraines sometimes (it's been a while since the last one). when they hit I have to find a dark quiet place and lay down, I often wish for someone to either beat my head in with a bat or blow my head off, it's that painful.
I used to be on anti-depressants for a while; they caused me to get really bad headaches whenever I got angry or frustrated. Once I stopped taking them, they went away.
Sometimes I get headaches and they are so bad I cannot work out.
They happen at random points about once a month. I have no idea what causes them.

If you feel you are having an abnormal amount of head ache and they are overly painful, I suggest going to the doctors rather than trying to alleviate worry by asking people on here to try and gauge what is normal.
If you are not asking for that reason then, yes I get head aches, sometimes I wake up with them, I find that if I ask someone to massage the muscles on either side of my spine it alleviates the pain if I'm desperate and waiting for pain killers to kick in.
I have had head aches that also caused nausea, my mother didn't want to ever give me pain killers as a child, she worried about it, and so I often lay in bed, praying for the pain to stop, and trying in vain to forget it, and so when I was a bit older, and my mum finally decided to risk it, I'll never forget the first time she plopped that little white pill into my hand. I truly thought it was a miracle drug. I couldn't believe that such a thing existed that could alleviate my pain so fast.
I get headaches and the doctors don't do sh*t, I am asking this question for another reason. Not ways to realieve headaches.
No, I'm not telling you to go to relieve your pain, but to find out if there might be something more seriously wrong with you.
I asked this question because I want to see if women get headaches more then men.
mine are due to light sensitivity. no idea why but I get aura's in my vision and once the aura disappears the migraine begins. If I take a couple of tylenol before the aura disappears (usually takes about 15 minutes) then I'll be OK and just have kind of a dull head ache but if I don't take anything then it's a serious migraine where it hurts so bad it makes me sick to my stomach. so I'm lucky I at least get a warning but the aura's while not painful are very frustrating because they obstruct my vision for alittle bit.
for those who have never had one this is what it looks like to get one, it builds over time just like in this picture... link
They used to be very frequent, around 3 times a week, and I would get them very bad. If I didn't take something or go to sleep, they would progress to being so painful that I would throw up and then pass out.
I still get them, but they've dwindled down to once a week/ once every other week..
MIGRAINES SUCK
I get headaches regularly.
I hate it, ill go a week at a time with the same constant headache that starts in my left temple area. Usually theyrr not real painful, but sometimes they get so bad I have to take a sleep aid and pass out
i used to get really bad headaches in high school. and sometimes in college too, but that's mostly because of not eating enough, often enough. they were pretty intense, excedrin works wonders.
i think we had this debate before...
excedrin>advil :D
Yeah I think acetaminophen (paracetamol) + aspirin + caffeine is superior to ibuprofen especially since biochemically aspirin is the only non reversible reaction. She's got you beat ihatework.
*nods like she knows what Anon's talking about*
:p
clearly we can have different experiences...seeing as you are you and I am me... :p
I use ibuprofen (advil) most often too, but realistically there are three types of pain meds in excedrin that act on different enzymes/receptors in the body to inhibit pain. ibuprofen is also a reversible reaction like most NSAIDs. Apirin chemically is superior to the rest of the NSAIDS, then you are adding caffeine and acetaminophen to the mix. It's no contest.
Out of curiosity, do you have high blood pressure? Maybe the caffeine has a negative effect on you due to constriction of blood vessel
@slip: For someone that claims to be the daughter of a pharmacist and a med student I thought you would kind of understand analgesics at lest a little bit. =P
i recognize the terms, I remember some of it from organic chemistry. but I haven't taken pharmacology yet :)
ah I see, did you take biochemistry yet?
took the first half of it. cell structure, action potential/neurotransmitters, metabolism, and some genetic disorders.
ok, still have a lot to go through. You'll know it soon enough. =P
hahaha, yea... so much more to learn. hope my brain doesn't explode :p
I know the feeling... Makes me want to procrastinate even more. The amount of stuff they make us absorb makes my head hurt at times.
i wish I could partner up my brain with someone else's... share the load :p
headaches, fairly often. ranging from mild to... someone painful? I don't think I've ever had a migraine.
I get them quite often, and on a scale of 1 to 10, they rande from a 5-8. Sometimes, 9/10 if it's that bad I go to the E.R.
i sometimes get 1-2 a week but that is because I skipped a meal but once in a while I will get a migraine where NOTHING will make it go away except pressure and darkness
Yes I get them from my sinuses draining *DAMN SINUSES*
I have severe headaches every day. It's a symptom of my post-concussion syndrome.
i get it every once in a while and it's pretty bad. On a scale of 1 to 10, they're about a 7.
I get like at MOST 2 a year. I can't see straight when it happens :( totally sucks
hardly ever.
i've had about two bad headaches in my life.
Not anymore. I did before I got my wisdom teeth removed 5 years ago. They were really bad, and now they are completely gone.
Nearly never but when I do get 1, it is like 6 out of 10 in the pain department and one 1 side of my head too. ouch!
Yes but only when I am on my period..other than that I never get them
Almost never!
I used to get them everyday. The problem was I wasn't drinking enough water.
Sometimes when I get depressed and get emo for no reason.
