Your pupils dilate?

Okay guys, have you ever noticed in yourselves or other guys that when you see a girl you find pretty or attractive, your pupils dilate? Girls have you ever seen a guy's eyes do this? I'm asking because I heard somewhere that a guy's pupils will dilate if he is around a girl he likes, but I thought it probably wasn't true, because it was in some weird article or something...anyway, when I was walking outside after school with a guy, (and we had established that we do like each other), it was really bright and sunny out, so usually the pupil is fairly small to keep out some of the light, but when I looked at his eyes, his pupils were huge, bigger than normal. They aren't usually like that, but here lately I've been noticing it more. Please answer the poll and give me your comments below for explanations or reasons or stories or whatever. Thanks ahead, and all input is welcome!

Okay, I guess I should have made this clearer...I already know he likes me because he told me, and I wasn't using that as a sign...it was more of an afterthought when I noticed it yesterday, so I wanted some opinions.

I think this is an extremely hard sign to look for, especially if the guy has dark brown eyes. The only way I've ever seen this is when I'm very close or he has a light eye color. And to be honest if you're trying to look closely enough at his eyes to see if his pupils have dilated or not it can be a little weird XD However it's true that the pupils dilate when the person finds someone they are looking at attractive.

But honestly if I were you I wouldn't judge it all on his eyes, look more closely at his body language. How much he invades your personal space, how quick his breathing is, or how his behavior changes around you compared with other girls etc

i don't judge it all on his eyes...it was just a thought I had when I noticed it, because his eyes are really light blue/green, so it is really easy to tell...and breathing...i have never heard that one before

Yep breathing can be one of them. Since a guy's heart rate will increase when he's sexually attracted to someone so his breathing can be a little faster and louder. But then again this only happens when you're close to each other e.g. the cinema. Anyway there's plenty of articles out there even explaining how he would react when certain hormones are released but it's all very technical and filled with science jargon :P Interesting if you've got the time to read through it all though.

Either he's attracted to you or he's picked up a drug habit, one of the pupil-dilating drugs like meth, mushrooms/acid. =P Hahaha. I'm mostly joking here, but really, drugs are a possibility. Is his behavior different? The pupil thing as far as attraction goes is true but I wouldn't rely on that alone by any means.

This is true but not a reliable way to tell if someone likes you. You would need to maybe video tape the guy's eyes then use software to measure the changes in dilation, the pupils are mm in length so it's very hard to be able to tell how much they changed

also there's changes in light entering the eye as someone looks up (lights are usually on a ceiling) or down which can really throw you off if you're trying to see if someone is dilating

Male and female pupil's dilate when they see someone they're attracted to. Likewise, someone will appear more attractive to you if their pupils are dilated. That is why a dimmed light is deemed "romantic" because the diminished light causes pupil expansion and thus increases attraction of both people.

Thank you! And that makes perfect sense, about the dimmed light. I never thought that dialated pupils made people more attractive, but I don't doubt it. That is really neat!

It is scientifically proven that one's pupils dilate when they see something that they are interested in or like. Also, there is a unusual shine the person's eyes that can be noticed if they like you or are enjoying your company.

xD. I never knew this. its a handy trick lol. but don't take that as the only sign. I know my pupils are abnormally big. I don't know why- but they just are lol.

i don't think they mean that if your pupils are dilated then you are automatically attractive, just slightly more so than before. I guess it kinda makes sense though, because your body picks up on more than what you realize. Supposedly someone's scent attracts you to them just as much as looks, but it isn't like cologne/perfume scent. It is a scent that we don't conciously recognize, but our body does somehow. I think it is kinda cool.

haha. yeah, I agree. its probably because of our ancient roots. somewhere along the line when people used to have baths 3 times a year- a nice smell was a really good thing.

maybe somehow it was the same with pupils in someway? xD. I'm guessing. I was never any good at bio xD

and don't feel bad, I wasn't good at bio either. Well, let me rephrase that...i was good at it while I was doing it, but now, a year later, I don't remember a thing, mostly because I didn't really care much. Now I wish I did pay more attention...if only we knew then what we know now! lol. :)

totally agreed! I took ap bio... horrible, horrible class. I was lost after a month and never ended up finding myself xD. yeah. I love chem so much more.

I'm taking Physics now and I like it...senior year is Anatomy and Physiology for the medical field...not sure how much I'm gonna like that!

xD. not really. my school is a private school so they can only offer so much... so they don't have honors science. so its either regular or ap. xD. I'm OK at science- I'm sure you're better if you want to go into medical.

haha, better...i doubt it. I'm only taking it because I have to if I want to be a nurse. I'm not a science kind of person. I'm way better at the medical terminology class than any science...and I'm good at math, I'm in pre-calc now, but I absolutely hate it!

ick, medical terms. that's going to be hours upon hours of senseless memorizing. not looking forward to it. and I don't even plan on being a nurse/doctor- I want to go into biomedical engineering xD

xD. yeah. it would be useful. I took latin just to prepare me for it. problem is latin is an insanely hard language- so I dropped that after 2 years (rofl)... but still I'm horrible at memorizing- that's why I like chem a lot- you mess with the numbers and eventually you'll get the right answer xD

Yeah you're definitely a blond. Guys can't see their own eyes dilate, they do it by themselves, not on command...

yeah, but they can notice it on other guys, or maybe they look in the mirror after they see a girl, or if they think about her while looking in the mirror. or they can feel it, because when your pupils are dilated, they are more sensitive to light. I can always tell when mine are dilated because of that.

because I was talking to a guy one day that I knew liked me, and when I looked at his eyes, his pupils were really big. If you look for it, it's usually not that hard to tell.
