Should I get transition lenses?

I got a prescription and I'm supposed to only use my eyeglasses in front of a screen or while driving at night. I didn't get transition lenses because I figured I'm only going to use my eyeglasses indoors or at night.

But when I started a new job, I had to look at computers while going in and out the door to attend to people outside the door. I can see the sunlight outside and I have to squint my eyes but I don't stay long outside and I'm still under the shade when I step out the door. I step outside for only a couple of seconds to a few minutes. I don't want to wear sunglasses because then I would have to take it off when I'm inside. And then I would have to switch to my eyeglasses because I'm using the computer.

Should I get transition lenses?

The optical store told me it won't get dark unless I step outside though.

"Transition lenses" are activated (made darker) by exposure to UV light.

We tried them years ago - terrible. WAY too slow to change - took about 15 minutes!!!

More recently, one of my daughters tried them- a bit of improvement, but the problem persists. Now it takes only about 5 minutes to change/revert. Still, far too slow for my needs. I just carry clip-ons in my car - much easier and faster.

Okay, do you have any other coatings?

For example I have an anti glare coating, blue light reduction coating, and UV coating.

If I were to add all of that to transition lenses, they wouldn't work. Especially because of the UV Component.

Source, I've been wearing glasses since 2nd grade.

The eye doctor's lens recommendations are:
Polycarbonate, Anti-reflective, and Blue light. Will that work with the transition lens?

Unfortunately probably not, the UV filter is the blue light filter. Though here is the rub, you need to ask your glasses technician. They will know best.

Nope I'm wrong, it should work with those. It only specifically doesn't work well with the UV and mirror coatings. Blue light, na danti glare are okay same with anti fog.

If your job ends up requiring more outdoor time than you expected, transitions can be a beneficial investment.

Yes. But some places don't sell them.
