I completely stopped getting mammograms! 10 years ago was my last one and before that one in 2005.

I believe that the direct radiation to a woman's breast could be the main cause of breast cancer. Especially if we have been following the original guidelines of once a year.

I had my first mammogram at around age 30. If I followed the guidelines I would have had 41 mammograms with radiation going directly to my breast.

A close friend of mine always had her yearly mammogram and she ended up with breast cancer twice! She was around 60 years old when she was first diagnosed.

My mother died with breast cancer and I hate it.
Since I began dating, I learned and began giving breast examinations for lumps to every girl I showered with. Before I did it, I told her what I was doing. On a couple of occasions I detected something. I suggested that they go to an oncologist and get treatment. It turned out that they were simply cysts in breasts. But if I found something I might have saved their lives.

I'm truly sorry for the loss of your Mother.
It's good that you are checking the women you are with but shouldn't they go to their gynecologist who would refer her to get a mammogram performed?

I believe that you go to an oncologist after you get diagnosed with cancer.

My granddaughter was born with megalo blastoma 2x removed and came back. She just celebrated her 20th birthday. She never had an X-ray before diagnosis. How about asking a real cancer doctor what is recommended for YOU? Every woman is different and should be treated as an individual, not lumped into a group

I got one once and never again. I have a hunch you’re right Sage… that or there is a large number of misdiagnosis’s. I didn’t like waiting to hear back about something I hadn’t been concerned about on the first place.

Lost my wife to breast cancer, that little lump she found and told no one killed her. A missed diagnosis is better than not going, and it turns out to be cancer. I do not want anybody to suffer and die because action was late, as she did

My mother gets one yearly. She was diagnosed with cancer a couple of year ago. Early intervention got rid of it, bbut...

I had one last year and will get another in 4 years

How many mammograms did she have before getting her cancer diagnosis?
Because I believe that it's too many mammograms that causes breast cancer from all of the direct radiation.

I think it was her 3rd or 4th it showed as very small. Had a biopsy almost imediately. Confirmed diagnosis. Had op after 3 weeks. Now confired still clear. On Tamoxifen, with all the classic side effects.

Yearly, in 4 years, a lot can happen, especially since cancer is in the family. Better yet, ask your oncologist, he knows better than us
