This has been on my back for 2 months. It's hard and crunchy and is painful underneath and down my back.
Thank you for your opinions.🙂
It looks like it might be, although it's probably not melanoma. Get to a dermatologist to have it checked out.
There are various types of skin cancer and most of them aren't malignant, especially if you catch them early and have them removed.
I had a squamous cell carcinoma removed from the tip o my right elbow today.
I have another carcinoma on my left forearm. It looks like a big, angry wart. I have an appointment to have it removed in a month.
Neither of them has a chance of spreading.
So don't be concerned until you get yours biopsied and get the results.

Looks fairly close to an SCC. At any rate, I urge you to visit your family doctor for a check and referral, if needed, before it becomes "invasive" if it is an SCC.
Thanks for the MHO. I wish you well with your exam and follow-up.

I'm not a doctor , but I'm an Aussie , that's not cancerous in my opinion , they don't look like that.
However while you are at it , I'd attend a skin clinic ( I assume you have them there ) and while having that checked out do your entire skin. I had a couple cut out when last in Aussie.
Good luck , but have all properly checked.
@molonski2
Thank you for your opinion.
No, we don't have special skin clinics that I know of in America. 🇺🇸
We have to see a doctor who specializes in dermatology and it takes months to get an appointment.
That's why I came here to ask the members.
I was just wondering if you would show the picture at your clinic and see what other people think.
I would really appreciate it.
That's a little sad..
In Aus there is that much skin cancer that they have really addressed it with pure skin clinics , it's very precise and if any doubt they cut it..
I have had a life spent in the sun , golf , surf , all sports , back when noone talked sunscreen.
And one lovely guy who worked with us we lost at 51 in around 6 months , so all should be taken seriously.
My brain screams that it's cancer.
I've been fooled before though. I grew up being told I had cancer on my inner thighs and was pretty sure I was going to die. Turns out they were just cigarette burns done by either my Mom or one of her boyfriends. Probably the same guy that burned my eyelashes off and crushed my big toe.
So don't listen to me... get a doctor's opinion.
I have no idea what it is, but you need a specialist to check it out, and you shouldn't have waited 2 months.
@Sunrising
I just wanted you to know that I didn't wait 2 months to show it to my doctor.
Unfortunately I had picked the top of it off so she couldn't tell if it looked like cancer.
So now I am just leaving it alone.
I sent her an email about it along with the picture but I don't know if she is going to get back to me about it or not.
Thanks for the verbal spanking for waiting for 2 months. Hehehe 😂
@Sunrising
One member sent me a DM and said that he's going through the same thing right now.
He has 2 SSC cancers and had one removed and another is going to be removed soon.
It's extremely unlikely indeed that there's anyone here professionally medically qualified to give a valid opinion.
Therefore it would be best to make an appointment with your own Doctor/GP.
There is a doctor on here. His name is @insatiable_curiosity I could ask him for you.
We are no docs! Go to the doc best. Better safe than sorry.
@InStrictConfidence
Thank you. I am hoping that there's a person with a medical background that might be able to tell me.
I am going to see a doctor, but it's a long wait and I want to ease my mind if someone knows what it is.
Even then it's difficult online.
@EmmaMary
Do you really think that I would do such a thing to anyone that is trying to help me?
I would hope that you know me better than that I would hold anyone liable who is just trying to help me.
Maybe someone who has seen this before might know what it is.
I'm really sorry that you would think that about me.😔
It's unlikely a melanoma but can be some other type less concerning skin changes that should be removed because they can transform in melanoma.
Yeah, you have 3 days left to live. Just kidding, the redness and crusting look like a bacterial infection, but see a doctor.
Sage- it is probably nothing but please see a dermatologist and get it removed. You will sleep better and so will I.
The Best Prevention Is Early Detection so go get it checked out by a dermatologist.
I'm not a doctor, you should see a dermatologist... but I hope it's not cancer... it doesn't look like the ones I saw.
I am not a doctor. But I would get it checked out ASAP! I am getting treated for two precancerous moles.
@sage2021 No answer here would be legit,
So go to doctor, please thanks
You should see your GP about it.
Simples...
When in doubt, see a doctor. Do not rely on the opinions of a group of amateurs.
See a doctor, no one on GAG is qualified
Could be. Ask a doctor about it.
Nope.
It's probably an actinic keratosis.
Go to your dermatologist and they will remove it at an office visit and then probably tell you to put vaseline on it until it heals. They will likely check it for cancer to be safe...
They are pretty common in older people who are exposed to sun and they show up on sun exposed areas like your face, neck, etc. Your profile says you are 71. I believe you claim to be from California. It's on your neck... Kind of lining up...
It's hilarious that this site demoted the only helpful answer to the bottom of the stack. It's seems they have objective of trying to destroy people's health.
