How hard is it to get pregnant again at 40 after C‑section and perimenopause?

My husband and I would like to give our 1 year-old son a sibling. Since my son was born via C-section (water broke and induction didn't work) and I was 38 when he was born, my OB recommended me to wait 2 years for the incision to heal. I'm now 39.

I'll be 40 (well 40 years old and 1 month exactly) on our son's 2nd b-day and we'll try conceiving by then. I've been having early periods lately. I just had my period twice this month. This is the 3rd time it's 8-10 days early. I got seen by a gynecologist and nothing was wrong with my reproductive organs. It's age related and this is the beginning of the perimenopause stage. I've been having extreme fatigue during the afternoon too and at times feel restless at night.

I was able to conceive easily (I got immediately pregnant on our first attempt; it was Sept 2024) during our engagement. I was 37 at the time and he was 50. I've realized even 37 and 40 is still a big difference but how hard would it be if we try to conceive again?

I believe pregnancy is achievable if you have a history of pregnancy or grew up in a multi child family because I have a theory that pregnancy success is both genetic and strengthened through experience and training. The reason Chinese people might have a lower pain tolerance then white people, could be that China created a one child law for city dwellers many decades ago so women were not able to exercise their pain tolerance after their first child. I am not suggesting that pain is good or a desirable method for training people, I am just saying, it could explain the Chinese fear of extremity in one’s life experiences.

Yes I've heard the one child policy in China. Though by 2015 or 2016, China allow women to have another child if they wanted to. The one child rule also applied to women that had a multiple-delivery birth since that would be out of their control.
My parents only had me and my younger brother. Over the years, more people started only have 1 or 2 children. Though from my maternal grandma, it's my mother and 2 half sibling. From my maternal grandpa, it's my mother and 3 half siblings. I would say we're an average sized family.

After a certain age, you begin to have problems with conceiving. And your children could have development problems, such as ADHD or even autism. I have heard that raising a child from birth to age 18 can run $300K or more. So you have to consider costs too, and that is with healthy kids. If your kid has some sort of problems that cost could rise. I'm not saying it will happen, but it could. Just something to consider.

Those are good points and I'll take that into consideration. In the end, if conceiving a 2nd child can't be done or it requires costly fertility treatment, then we don't mind being parents of a single boy. My mother actually tells me to look on the bright side; that at least we have a healthy boy. There are people that can't ever conceive, not even once.
