In the United States the appendix was regularly removed as a routine measure during the 20th century.
Following early evolution theories, the appendix was widely believed to be useless, vestigial remnant of human evolution.
Doctors reasoned because the appendix seemingly served no purpose, a person was better without it.
In the early 2000's researchers discovered that the appendix is not useless, and it functions as a "safe house" for beneficial gut bacteria.
The appendix also contains lymphoid tissue, playing an active role in the immune system.
Studies have shown that the appendix's unnecessary removal can trigger gut dysbiosis which happens when the helpful and harmful microorganisms in your body (mostly in your gut) lose their natural harmony.
I've not had my appendix removed, have you?

Yes, I had appendicitis when I was very young.
I personally have never had to have my appendix removed.
My immune system remains robust. Gut health as well. It has been gone since two weeks after my 18th birthday.
I am keeping mine.
no doctor can convince me to take any part of me as long as I am healthy.
