I'm conflicted. Sometime I do, sometimes I don't.
Do you give a tip when you get takeout?
I'm conflicted. Sometime I do, sometimes I don't.
i was a good tipper until I went into business for myself. Then I realized that service is a part of the package and I am paid neither more or less for rendering my service *perfectly*. I am only deserving of extra when I do something above what is expected in the service package. Example:
You buy a flat screen TV and it works. WOW--not. That's what its suppose to do. No tip.
You buy a flat screen TV and the company randomlly decides to install an automation center with voice and motion control sensors and wifi at no extra cost to you. Yes, tip.
If you bring my chopped basil salad to me in a styrofoam container tied up in a plastic bag for me to carry to my car and drive home... you've simply done your job. This is why customers service is SO BAD in this country (USA). There is an entitlement mindset there, that makes people think they deserve something for average service.
So you brought me water, a basket of bread and sat my plate on the table, smiled and asked me if I liked the dish. NEWSFLASH: that's NOT stellar service. That's what you're PAID to do.
I do I figure a couple bucks makes the day of the person making minimum wage or sometimes its a server who still has to pay taxes on your bill (tipped employees taxes are based on their sales not what they make). And before you roll your eyes I make much more than minimum wage but lets face it times are tough and some days I have people give me tips and its like a treat to be able to have an extra five bucks so I can drivethru instead of going home after 12 hours and cooking.
Oh might just be habit. One of my friends makes as much as I do struggles as much as I do yet thinks nothing of me being happy over a $5 tip because its really not that much *sigh*.
I basically will tip you if I like you, or if I feel sorry for you. And pizza delivery drivers, I kind of empathize with them, so I always give them a tip. Although I haven't actually ordered any pizzas in a long time now. I don't always tip at restaurants though. Like I said, if I like you you'll get a tip. And good service helps too.
Wow I hope you never have to work for tips. I personally never not leave a tip unless the service was so appalling I was shocked.
Yeah well I have no income and I may never have income for the remainder of my life so I prefer to keep the expenditure down. Capiche?
I don't. But in Europe the tipping system is so different from the U.S. Taxes and tips for the waiters are included in restaurant prices here. But if you have a good service, tipping a little bit (say a few euros) is normal.
Bartenders get tipped a bit as well but not nearly as much as in the U.S.

Why would I tip then? They got their money in the form of me paying for the food. Tbh, I'm wholly against this idea of tipping anyways. Tipping should be for exceptional service, not for adequate or service in general.
Now, don't get me wrong, I understand most food service people (like waitresses/waiters) are vastly underpaid, but that's why I would advocate they get an official pay raise. And then stop taking into account tips. Tips shouldn't be mandatory -_-
Why the hell would I move to the UK just for that reason?
And I'd rather push to remove this stupid "waiters/waitresses/service industry people should have a different minimum pay than others" law. And bump minimum wage in general. The lower and middle class haven't seen an income increase (accounting for inflation) since 1970s... the rich? 278%. After inflation. GG!
To clear this up, English people do tip, not take-away services but in restaurants, cafes, hair dressers ect. Sometimes it's included in the bill sometimes there's a service charge on the receipt, sometimes you are just expected to tip without the need to be told. It's normally 12% of the meal cost but can go up to 15% on some occasions and higher quality service restaurants.
I read the question wrong and mistakenly picked A. I DO NOT. tip when I get take-out. I simply go, pick up the food and pay for it. You shouldn't have to tip. They are not serving you or delivering it to your house. You have to drive there to get it, so no. Do no tip.
No, no & no. UNLESS... It is a place I frequent often for eat in also. And they give me super-duper service, such as remembering me, doing something extra, etc. I would also tip for take out if they ran it out to my car, which in my area, some do if you are a regular customer & they really like you. So I would then. It shows I appreciate the extra mile.
I never heard of tipping for picking up take-out. I worked in restaurants and know what it is like to not get tipped but I know that take-out goes from the kitchen to the front desk. There is no service involved. I tip well all the time when it is deemed necessary and at the right moments but will not tip while picking up take-out.
The service is them making your food and the hostess ringing it up for you
I didn't say to tip them.. I just said they are providing a service
I either give a small tip or I don't tip, depending on how I feel about the specific situation. If there is a tip jar I might put some change in it , something like that. I don't tip the way I do when eating at a table, though.
I only do from the restaurant I work at. I believe in taking care of your own and they have all helped me so much and I know a lot about what's going on in their lives. The least I could do is tip them so I can help them like they've helped me out.
No I don't tip and a guy at a local place gave me a good idea.. He said to me make sure you cross out the tip part so no one can write in a amount if you are doing takeout.
Bitch please! I ain't giving nobody no damn tip, when I gotta pick up the damn food and use my muthaf***ing gas money! you know how much gas costs these days? F***UH tip, hell to the muthaf***ing NO hell NO. I ain't tipping no takeout!

this is madeeerrrr
If I have a good week financially I will tip takeout if I'm able to afford it :D they need to make a living to :D.
I do not tip when getting takeout for exact reasons you stated above.
I think I tip too many people. Anytime someone performs an actual service for me I feel obligated to tip them for it.
Haha yeah that's how I am. I feel like a jerk if I don't. lol
I do but that's because when I was a waitress I'd do takeout orders to. I'm not there to work for free lol.
No, I don't really consider it much of a service. That's like tipping every time I buy clothes.
i don't usually tip for take-out, sometimes I do, if I have it ...but like for service in a restuarant I do always.
I don't tip when I get takeout. Are you supposed to?
For takeout, I don't tip because theirs no service involved.
i always tip. I tipped a waiter 20 some dollars at olive garden...the total was 100 something because we were a group and plus he was FINE lol why are all the olive garden waiters so hottt
You act like that tip is something special. That's what you should tip for a bill of 100 dollars. I always tip 20 percent unless the service is not good-- then closer to the minimum acceptable tip (15%) But most of the time it is not the server's fault so I will not tip that low. PS: he was asking about takeout, not sit-down dinner service
it is a lot considering its his job anyway.
PS: She** was talking about takeout.
No. I hardly tip even when I sit down. I'm kind of a cheapskate lol
are you serious? That's terrible. No wonder why you went ANON on this one. Start tipping your waiters, they work hard for their money. You should be embarrassed and ashamed of yourself.
If they aren't serving you, how did that food get ordered and made?
Yes they do, because most restaraunts have tip-out. You're still getting served, just not in a sit down
setting
It's not different.. But I'm not saying you have to tip everyone. I'm trying to make the point that it IS service
Ok people.. I'm NOT SAYING to tip the chef or hostess... I'm saying that they DO PROVIDE a service. DOES NOT mean you have to tip, NOT SAYING you should. JUST SAYING it IS a service..
No, I don't tip when I get takeout.
i don't .. tipping is not done in iceland
No, I do not tip when I get take out.
