Nobody tips in my country. Wait staff earn a wage, not this slave-labor US stuff.

I usually tip about 20%, if the service is good. My SO, who used to be a server, educated me about tipping. It's important to tip on the correct amount (what the server is responsible for), not the total bill. Do not tip on alcoholic drinks, fees or sales tax.

In our area, tipping is important since the servers don't get paid minimum wage. Yes, it's legal because the tips, added to their meager hourly wage, exceeds the minimum wage... most of the time. At most restaurants, the hourly wage is about US$3. Most people don't know that.

About 20% unless you’re giving me free stuff then they get a lot more. Some waiters like to do that so they can get the big huge tip

There is no need for tipping in the country, people are actually paid a living wage.
