Yes. It's a string of the herpes virus, but not THE herpes virus. It's much more common and not as detrimental. My boyfriend gets them, I get them, they go away, and as long as you don't kiss them when they have one, you're usually good. And if you get them, it's not really the end of the world.

I get cold sores, and my boyfriend does not we've dated 7 years and I just don't kiss him when I have a sore, he doesn't get it. Its a virus and viruses like to live on humans so just have to be responsible and not spread the little bastar.ds.

No I wouldn't. Its a sign that that their unhealthy,unsanitary, and not careful. This is also the first stage of herpes. Even though it could be treated it will most likely return.
