Do you play chess? If not, are you familiar with the game? My lady friend has watched "The Queens Gambit' many times. what say all of you GAG'ers?

I have played for many years, but am not a good player, as I only play "by the seat of my pants" so to speak. I know nothing of The Sicilian Defense" but wish I did, and dont' know WHEN to 'Castle" when the time is right.

To be a good player you must know the board, and the numbers of all of the squares to really read and understand the different strategies. I dont' know know the board, but want to join a chess club here in HB.

Anybody interested in Chess, I would like to hear from your! If you want to become a 'fan' of the game... watch The Queens Gambit"

Just saw one of the reasons, that Many are leaving this site... I posted this question for all.. as a general interest question, as I, like many get tired of the "same old s (*& all the time...

I think I'm rated around 800-1000 right now but I fluctuate a couple hundred points depending on my mood and how much I fly by the seat of my pants.

I sometimes enjoy sitting down with a bottle of wine and playing a bunch of quick and messy blitz games. I've attempted on an occasion or two over the years to study more into the theory of chess...

but honestly, I just rather enjoy playing messy games and acting out on instinct. I'm not trying to be good at the game and find thanks to online ranking systems, I don't need to be good at chess to have good games.

@InknKink I usually play messy games too, as I have no real grasp, of the various strategies. I have never played enough to have a rating... Thanks for responding.

The two most prominent online chess sites will rank you starting at 400 and within something like 10-20 games you'll know where you're ranked. Depending on the game style play, you can get properly ranked in a couple hours to a couple days/weeks. Classical chess taking longer.

"The Queen's Gambit" is an interesting series. I play chess, occasionally. I enjoy some of the online chess puzzles.

I know how to play, but I'm not terribly great at it. My kids joined chess club last year and asked me to play them so I can definitely beat them lmao. I don't really have anyone else to play other than getting on some sort of website to play strangers and that doesn't interest me.

I have no idea what my ranking would be, but I imagine it wouldn't be very high.

I used to but sadly found myself without anyone to play with. I used the Queens gambit a lot when I did.
