The MP3 format - like most compressed formats - makes files smaller by leaving out certain information that almost lies outside of our hearing range.
Some describe music from MP3 files as muddled, meaning they lack definition, detail and clarity, where instruments tend to blend together. Others will describe it as too bright or thin, with a prominent treble that makes higher-range vocals sound piercing, while lacking in bass response. Others still describe it as flat, missing depth and dimension.
How much do you think we're losing out vs. an original recording on hifi equipment?
