Start small and easy. Invest in plants from a reliable nursery that are hearty and require minimal care. Get a few books on plants and read up on them. Choose two or three that you like and test yourself on those few and see how successful you are.

Stick to stuff that suits your area. If your soils acid stick to acid loving plants, if your gardens in full sun avoid shade loving plants.

Wild plants grow perfectly well without human intervention because they live in places suited to them. Gardeners fail because they try to force plants to grow in the wrong places.

Start with a "spider plant". In a couple months, mom plant will be sprouting "daughter plants" that can be transplanted out into several new pots. Then- as they grow- THEY become "mother plants" and have grand-daughters, and so on and on. Self-sustaining side business. These are (darn near) impossible to goof up.
