You always see the people boarding up the doors and windows with lumber that comes out of nowhere. It takes a lot of lumber for every door and window on a house, so if this happened would you have enough? We have furniture but it wouldn't really break into usable pieces

There's a brilliant scene in the old movie "when the wind blows" where the old couple follows a government leaflet to survive a nuclear blast. First they revove the front door and prop it against the wall indoors. Then the next instruction is to close the front door.
