I have collected some frig magnets and quite a few shot glasses.
I bought a half dozen ornate beer steins when I visited Bavaria in 1988.
I collected a bunch of stuff from the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, including cloisonet pins. I bought a book for Olympic event stamps, pasted in the stamps, and went to the different venues to get their special cancellations.
At one time, I collected a LOT of space program memorabilia. My dad worked for a major aerospace corporation that was involved in manufacturing space vehicles from Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, to the Space Shuttle.
He brought home some experimental materials like heat shield tiles. I used to go to their employee store and buy patches, cloisonnet pins, stickers, and 1 oz silver coins for different space shuttle missions. A friend invited me to an open house at JPL and I got some patches and stickers. I got other stuff from booths at air shows and from the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.
I have a lot of unique stuff.
I collected space program stamps. The post office near the manufacturer where my dad worked had a philatelic department and they were the only post office authorized to have special cancellations for Space Shuttle launches.
The guy who. worked there was an artist and drew pen and ink graphics on envelopes. So I would buy those, paste on the corresponding stamps, and get the special cancellations.
I have a decent size collection of coins and pristine paper currency. For a while, I collected silver mint and proof sets of U. S. coins. I also went to the Bureau of Engraving in Washington DC and bought a couple of uncut sheets of $2 bills.
I have a duffel bag of concert T-shirts from the 1970s. And I saved some of the psychedelic posters I had in my room in my teens and early 20s.
I have some nice fossils. Some of the bi-valves and shark teeth I found myself. But I used to go to a small fossil shop in Venice, Ca. and bought some really nice trilobites, ammonites, baculites, crinoids, fish impressions on sandstone and slate, megalonon teeth, and a couple of small dinosaur teeth.
And I have a pretty cool semiprescious rock collection, including amber and coral.12 Reply- 4 mo

I'm sure you will collect many memories throughout your life as I am sure you have already made quite a few. Or is that an overestimate of your memory status? 🙃
- 4 mo
Of course I'd want to be in one or many of your memories...🙃 I'm determined to be in at least one good memory of yours if you'll have me that is...

Awww!! I'm very happy to hear that!! It will be a great memory because you'll be in it too with me!!😉

4 moRecords (over 62,000, so far), Mad and National Lampoon magazines (I HAD all the Poons except for a few special issues and their last few years worth because they were so hard to find before they stopped making them!) and I had a few hundred Mad's until my greedy ex-sisters had me kicked out of my own house 6 years ago and lost a TON of things I'd been hanging onto since I was a kid!! I lost maybe 100 older issues of Mad. I also had a few coin collections that I was never able to take with me!
Grandma had a bunch of very old Postage Stamps a long time ago and she gave them to her kids a few years before she died in `74. One of them, I'm not sure who, got the full sheets of the upside down Jenny stamps!! But, I had a feeling they were still somewhere in the house and I never had to chance to look for them!!10 ReplyIt’s kind of silly, but I like collecting journals lol.
I like handmade journals, vintage journals… or just cute ones that I find in stores or online. I buy them and plan on writing in them… when I finish with the one I’m writing in currently, haha.

4 moI don't collect anything but my grandpa gave me a stamp collection. His father started collecting them when he was a kid. There's stamps from all over the world, from when my great grandfather was in the military. It's never been appraised but he's got four huge books full of them in mint condition.

10 ReplyStamps and coins when I was younger. I'd have a fleet of classic cars if 1) I had the money to pay for them and maintain them, and 2) I had enough room to store them. As I don't have either, I pass. LOL
