Do You Like Painting And Decorating Your Home?

Question

I'm not keen on painting and decorating, but I do what is necessary in my home. What is your opinion?

I'm not crazy about painting because you have to move everything and put down drop. cloths. But shortly after my wife and I moved into our home, we painted the living room, dining room, kitchen and hallway fun. colors.
The living room walls are a soothing shade of darkish sage-green.
We faux textured the living room ceiling a brownish green that compliments the walls and we put a faint-copper tint over it to reflect ever so slightly in the light.
The kitchen walls are brick red with white cabinets.
We faux textured the dining room in a darkish Mediterranean yellow with white, 8' wide French doors.
The hallway leading past the dining room to the guest bedroom and guest bath match the dining room.
Since the dining room and kitchen adjoin each other in an open floor plan, we faux textured ceilings the same color. It's a darker shade of brownish-yellow than the dining room walls.
On one living room wall that is to the right when you enter the house and has double doors leading to the office, we troweled a coating that breaks slightly when you put it on to look like hand plastering. Then we faux textured that with the same yellows, red and greens used on the other walls. It sounds weird, but it turned out great with the faux texturing making it look sort of subdued and antique.
The doors and door frames in the living room are reddish-brown.

The painting was a pain but I'm really happy with the way it turned out. The living room has the feel of an English gentleman's personal library. The kitchen and dining room are bright, cheerful and have a Mediterranean feel.

We later had a guy come in to paint our master bedroom, master bath and guest bath.
The bedroom has blue walls with a lighter, slightly different color blue on the ceiling, around the windows, and in the big, pop-out area with three windows and a window seat.

The guest bath has light, peachy-pink walls and a slightly lighter shade ceiling. They match the brown, textured, terra cotta tiles around the long, sink counter. The colors are faint but stand out against the white bathtub, cabinet and door.

The master bath has three colors but I have a hard time describing them or the various walls on which they are painted.

Our guess bedroom and office are still the original off-white.

Anyway, the colors make me really happy and go with our decor.

The problem is getting someone who can do it in a professional yea, whether or not they are paid pros or unpaid "amateurs". We had a "pro" redo our bath a few years ago, and I was having to re-do things as he went along to minimize the damages. So, I do what I have to. We HAVE found a few excellent tradespeople (painters and kitchen installer, most notably) who did fine work. We have no problem keeping their names and referring them to others. I would do more, but more than 70 years has taken its toll on my body, and we now have to farm out some of the work.

I have painted rooms and furniture but it wasn't because I liked doing it, I just wanted to change the colors and make it look better.

I guess I am pretty good at decorating and have received compliments for the past 10 years about my living space from everyone who has been in my home.

As I looked around just now, I have to say it is rather lovely in here.🙂

I like decorating. We can’t paint our dorm rooms. We try to make it look cute considering how drab they look when you move in.

When I was a kid and as a young man, I did enjoy painting.

Fast forward 30 years, though, and no, I no longer like to paint.

The paint nowadays is so thick and heavy, it's hard to hold up a roller full of paint.

Of course, I am a weaker old man now, but the pain got thick and heavy long before I became an old man.

My late wife liked wallpaper, but she had someone do the paper in our home years ago.
I helped a neighbor do some papering when I was a teenager on a few occasions, but that's it.

I do not like painting at all! I do like how fresh paint looks, though!

I do like decorating very much! I used to change the decor for all the seasons and most holidays, but it just got to be too much. Now, I change the decor for fall and Christmas only.

I hate painting because I tend to be perfectionist so it takes FOREVER, but it looks great when it is done. Decorating is a bit more enjoyable because I peruse antique stores looking for additions to my home.

As for me I have a hard time matching my socks so when it comes to painting & decorating my home that is one thing I’m not good at or like doing.

Nope, which is one reason why we love the home we have. It already had the ideal paint job and flooring for us.
