Where are you at on the Physical vs digital debate when it comes to our home entertainment. should physical media stay or should digital replace it?

So there's been a huuuge debate over whether digital will fully replace physical media whether its moves, tv shows, video games, music, even books. However lately it seems physical has been making a come back.

Physical is better than digital, but corporations had to sell consumers the lie everywhere that digital was more convenient than physical. Another lie was “cutting the cord”.

With physical comes modification, making your own backups from the purchase, you own what you buy, the ability to archive what is lost (when its sale comes to an end), playback is possible without needing a connection online all the time getting distracted by corporations wanting you to spend time and be glued, works on its preferred hardware when kept in good condition. Rather than selling a high quality product once, they make you pay for different streaming services for books, music, tv, movies, and more.

Physical media will always be superior, which is why I buy physical.

Not to mention some of the “physical copies” you buy in stores doesn’t have the full game or licensed product even inside its case, Fallout 76(cardboard circle with a code included) and multiple other games (not all the data is stored on the physical disc, so requires download or exclusively a download with no disc in sight).
There are even instances where you have to connect to the company’s website to get approval to launch, play, and enjoy the game that you purchased (offline mode, not even online match where I could at least understand).
It is annoying. There is more freedom and freewill in physical than digital however not all physical media is created equal by companies selling consumers a half baked product.

Physical, with a side-order of recordings on a DVR. Anything where my devices don't report what I watch and every time I go and make a cup of tea.

There are pros and cons to both, but I'm still mostly streaming/downloading things and I think now I'm using physical media (particularly movies/tv shows) as a backup for when I can't stream/download something. I'll probably never go back to CDs tho, tbh. 😅

The best “save file” I own is still a physical game box on my shelf 🎮📀

I love digital for convenience and sales, but I never fully trust it. Games get delisted, shows vanish, licenses expire, and suddenly something you “own” is gone. Physical feels safer, collectible, and nostalgic, like trophies of my gaming life.

For me, digital is great for quick access, but physical absolutely should stay as a real backup and a piece of history.
