I think they figure that one card for VINTAGE format is worth the entire year's grand final prize, because about 90% of the time, if you start with Black Lotus in your opening hand, you are going to win the game in Vintage.

That's insane for a vehicle
That's not a vehicle. It's an extremely rare playing card for a 1993 Collectible Card Game. It's the first card they ever had a rules change or banning in the game because of the card.
And yes, I agree it's insane what some millionaires are willing to pay for a trading card, but they are dumb enough to spend it on a trading card. If I owned a black lotus, I would not play with it. I'd auction it to a millionaire for half a million dollars like the last several people. f
I remember when Black Lotus was trading for $300 per card, and people didn't use sleeves to play with the cards back then, and we thought that was insane to pay 300 for one trading card. Now they got millionaires who regularly pay half their net worth to collect one card.
I personally know a card shop owner who owns 4 copies each of the "Power Nine" magic the gathering cards and keeps them locked in a fire-proof safe. His nephew is a professional judge in the game and told me himself that they own four copies of every P9 card.
THAT is insane.
Holy crap! I read the name and assumed vehicle.
A PLAYING CARD!!
A shop owner who owns his own land and doesn't need to pay rent/lease can get filthy rich off sports memorabilia and trading card games.
If you're paying a lease at a shopping mall, the mall owner takes your profits.
If you own your own land and have a shop on the land, you keep 100% of the profits. If you know the real trading value of most things and don't over-pay, you can make millions of dollars doing it. It's just like owning your own land for a Pawn Shop vs Renting to run a pawn shop. The owner makes the money. The guy renting makes nothing.
Yes.

These are in pretty bad condition, and are still asking 20k to 50k per trading card.
If you have one in "Good" condition and know how to sell it, you can fetch a half-million from the right buyer.
Wow, that's really insane ๐
Well, like I said, they assume it's worth that much, because the Grand Prize is worth a half-million per year.
It's not worth that much. I've seen people with a Vintage deck miss their Black Lotus draw and get beaten by a Type 2/ Standard deck. I once beat a guy who had a vintage deck with black lotus in it, and I was playing a STANDARD deck for the first time and I locked him down and beat him. He complained and scooped. The funny thing is, he drew a black lotus on about turn 12 and I had him in a Static Orb lock, and the Black Lotus was USELESS.
It's not worth that much, but they are dumb as fuck and willing to pay that much anyway.
