I’m not a huge Christmas person anymore. Pretty much I look forward to the Christmas presents and the dinner because my mom’s mac ‘n cheese is the bomb.com. However, I absolutely love Christmas music when sung by the right artist. Yes, there are some I don’t like, but even some renditions of those that I don’t like are great.
Now, for the purpose of this list, I'm headed to the less commonly played songs on the radio stations. Sorry, Mariah, that means your 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' won't be on the list even though the song itself is awesome.
Here are my top 5 Christmas songs by mainstream artists I love during the holiday seasons. Number 5 will send chills down your spine.
1. This Christmas - Chris Brown
Before Chris Brown went crazy, he sang ‘This Christmas’ for the soundtrack of the movie with the same name. I love his voice in it with the instrumentation. It was nice to listen to and had a pretty decent beat.
2. Last Christmas – Ariana Grande
This is one of those Christmas songs that I absolutely hate. I’ve never liked the way anyone sang it until I heard Ariana Grande do it. It’s hard to believe such a strong voice comes out from such small person…even if half the time you don’t know what she’s saying.
3. Silent Night – Kelly Clarkson ft. Reba McEntire and Trisha Yearwood
I love Silent Night, and there aren’t too many people I know who sing it correctly. The voices of these three women compliment each other well and it’s nice hearing the song done properly without the artists trying to show off their voices like in so many other types of traditional songs (*cough* National Anthem *cough*).
4. Mistletoe – Justin Bieber
I’m not a Bieber fan and never caught the fever. However, I like the relaxing beat to this rendition of Mistletoe. It’s nice, quiet, and the perfect song to listen to curled up next to the fireplace with your significant other sipping on hot chocolate.
5. Oh Holy Night – Sohyang
I saved my personal favorite for last because I wanted the other artists to get some type of recognition before this Korean young lady blew you away. Sohyang is a Korean artist who sang this song at a Kpop competition, and, yes, I’m well aware the lyrics in the bottom corner are wrong.
There’s not much to say…I mean, all you have to do is look at the people in the audience. Very rarely does an artist sing a song so beautifully that it captures the attention of everyone the way she did.
If you listen to any song on this list all the way through, it should definitely be this song. Just wait until the end. It’s 100% worth it. The live version of this song is also available on iTunes.
I hope you enjoyed my little list. What’s some of your favorite Christmas songs?
