Fall is here again and Thanksgiving is around the corner for some and we want to hear about it from the community!

We are running a contest for all Gag members where we will select 1 guy and 1 girl to win a $25 Amazon gift card!

My favorite things about November is time for pumpkin pie - which I now make. Dunkin’ Donuts pumpkin spice coffee. We used to all get together for Thanksgiving dinner but my sister and her family broke off so to speak and they have their own dinner. My mom who is 84, she’ll just maybe cook up a turkey breast and have turkey sandwiches and the pumpkin pie. Then November 30 or December 1 - Time to put the Christmas tree up 👍🙂

All the tourists have buggered off home leaving the beaches to me to enjoy between the gale-force winds and horizontal rain. We don't have Thanksgiving over here, we're not dumb enough to put two turkey dinners so close together and for that I'm thankful.

In previous years, I would answer food, and this year is the same, but the emotions are different.

In late September this year, my father passed. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t hit me hard. It still hits me hard thinking about it. Nevertheless, around this time of the year, one thing he would enjoy doing is making pies and test different dough recipes or do some experimentation. It was always a fun experience (when I was around the house) for him to come up with a small conspicuous piece of dough and say “hey, try this” and await my reaction.

Sure— Sometimes the dough wasn’t the greatest, but it created some precious memories with trying out different pie experiments. It similarly inspired me to give it a go of making my own pies.

Nowadays, when I make a pie, it has a sort of bittersweet feeling. I really do miss my dad and the pies he would make, but I am fond of the memories from the time spent in the kitchen together. Thus, making pies this year around this time (like I’m carrying a tradition almost) is something I enjoy for a multitude of reasons.

Danger, I'm so very sorry. I haven't been on gag as much either (though still a lot more than you), but I just happened to look at this q, saw your name at the top (immediately stopped reading all the others), and wanted to say a happy, "Hey, you're back!", but am so saddened by this news. Especially going into the holidays. What a difficult season it will be.
My mother passed in April, right after her birthday, and right after we had a terrible last phone conversation. I think it contributed to her giving up. I'm still in shock, I think, and trying to process what happened. It had been a long ordeal, not just for her, but in the evolution (which seemed to devolve, instead of evolve), over so many years.
Anyway, I try to not allow myself to go down that unresolved path. You, on the other hand, have the right methodology here, it seems, with remembering the person for the little joys, and pleasures, and quirks, that were theirs, and that they brought to others. Sometimes life seems like an endless wave, and receding, of people coming in and out of each other's lives.
I had to stop now, as this is already making me cry again, but I just wanted to say to you that I'm sorry for your loss, and mine, and that your presence has been missed as well.
Here's to homemade dough and loved ones, and memories both joyous and bittersweet...

Okay, I am about to lose any chance of winning the gift card - and I am going to be a wet blanket to boot.

However, I cordially loathe fall - and winter for that matter. The days get short. It gets cold and constantly cloudy. Everyone say's, "Oh, but the leaves are so beautiful!!!"

Those leaves look that way because they are dead. It is like saying, "Oh, let's go look at the bodies in the morgue." Not to mention then that I get the privilege of raking them up for weeks after.

Yeah, I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a grump. However, I am no fan.

As to Thanksgiving, eh, it is what it is. A reason to eat to forget how miserably cold it is outside. I used to like it back when I was young and they actually celebrated it before Christmas.

However, in this day and age, Thanksgiving is an afterthought. A speed bump on the way to the commercial bonanza that is the Christmas season. A season, that, by the way, begins on December 27th and ends the following December 26th.

As far as I am concerned, the year should start April 1 and end on August 31 and go back to April 1 and start again. I am a militant Spring/Summer guy - in case you could not tell - and Easter Sunday is, by far, my favorite holiday. Even more because it is so commercially underrated.

My apologies to everyone on G@G and especially to the fans of Fall and Winter and Thanksgiving. I don't mean to be a wet blanket. However, this question was bound to provoke my ire. Give me Spring flowers and Easter eggs over dead leaves and a turkey any day.

Oh, and by the way, a sad good bye to that gift card. Kinda don't think this answer earned it.

I like the fact that it's the most popular mating season. Most babies are conceived in the Fall, and born in the summer. Obviously, there must be something that brings both old and new couples together to warm up together on a somewhat cooler temperature than it previously was for the past few months. Indeed, with the cooler temperature, I find myself venturing outside of the house a lot more, going for fast-paced walks, as it is a better temperature for that kind of exercise. And on my walks, I'm always optimistic about who I might meet :D

Fall is the season in the Northern Hemisphere when days get shorter, and the heat of Summer slowly changes into the icy cold of Winter. Trees shed their leaves, while bears and other hibernating animals get ready for their long winter sleep.

In the US, it's a time of Thanksgiving, when families get together to eat (and put on weight), share stories and argue... playfully. Thank goodness the elections are over... almost, though we still don't know the complete results.

Let us all Give Thanks for surviving yet another year... and get ready for the year ahead.

Fall is an amazing time of the year for me. I enjoy seeing the leaves change colors and fall in my part of the country. I enjoy having Thanksgiving dinner with all the different foods. I also enjoy the colder weather where I can make hot cocoa or hot chili. Also, around this time of year in mid-November, I start putting up my Christmas decorations to get in the Holiday season mood.

My favorite thing about Fall is Halloween. Yes Halloween counts as Fall, as Fall started September 22nd and Halloween was October 31st. One of the best things about Halloween is watching a bunch of scary Halloween movies while eating Halloween candy.

Mine usually consisted of mom doing a lot of cooking all day, especially if we were having it at our house. She'd do the cooking, we'd do the cleaning and setting the table, including putting the extra leaves in it to fit more people and then, everyone would start filing in around 4:00 and dad, grandpap my uncles would all sit in the living room watching some stupid football game while the women were all in the kitchen getting all the last minute stuff cooked because each would bring some part of the meal with them.
Mom would possibly make tapioca for dessert, along with the various pies that the others would make and I'd get to lick the beaters after she beat the egg whites or, if she was making meringue for the pies, I'd get to lick the beaters and the bowl, too!
One of my fave parts of one of these types of meals was grandma's chicken dumpling soup!! She'd make it from scratch and I'd have 3 or 4 bowls of it before digging into the turkey!! She knew how much I loved it so, she'd make a huge pot of it and, after the day was done, she'd leave the rest of the soup for me to eat later!
If we had the meal here at her house, it was pretty much the same except that mom only had to cook a part of the meal and dessert and we wouldn't have to dress the house up, just ourselves.
As grandma catered in the basement, if we had a big enough crowd here, we'd all eat in the basement. The adults would all sit at the 2 or 3 tables all strung together near the stove and the kids would sit in the other half of the basement at a set of folding tables. It was carpeted and furnished so, it was like a family or play room. (Almost any other time I came here, I'd go down there and listen to my aunt's records and she and her best friend next door would teach me every new dance that came along! I was a GREAT dancer, back then!! Before Christmas and Easter I'd be allowed to eat some of grandma's candy she'd sell every year.)
For a smaller gathering, we'd eat in the kitchen and dining room upstairs on the 1st floor. I don't think grandma started making her Christmas candy before T-day but, if she did, the shelves would've been set up in the kids' half of the basement so, there'd be no room for us to have dinner down there.
After dinner, the men would go back to their football, the women would clean-up and sit around yakking and a few of each set would eventually break off and start up a card game in the other room. That was one of my fave things for these get togethers!!
I don't much like the cold or the leaves all over the place or the hassle of putting that dinner all together but, I liked the food and desserts and being with a bunch of people, playing cards and the knowledge that Christmas was next on the bill in just one month!! And, this time of year always seems most fitting for me to whip out a bunch of dad's old 78's (later to include the thousands I had) and listen to that old music. I'm not sure why but, I've always felt like doing that in the fall and winter. The `40's and `50's eras seems to be more fitting for that time of year, especially Christmas.
Anyway, three weeks later, we'd start decorating the house for Christmas and then the tree a few days later!!

I love the fall colors. Evergreens contrasting with the flaming reds, oranges and yellows of a forest on the edge of a clear lake that reflects the silver-blue sky.

I love the crisp air and puffy white clouds.

One of my favorite things is to drive through rural areas and to see barns and farm stands with their harvest season bounties of fruit, veggies, pumpkins, squash, corn stalks and fall decorations. Freshly pressed apple cider. Roasted chestnuts.

I love Thanksgiving get togethers and all the traditional fare - roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, parsnips and rutabaga, green bean casserole, corn, Brussels sprouts, dinner roles, wine and other tasty drinks, pumpkin pie, and all the other wonderful pies and confections.

Thanksgivings were special when I was growing up. All the relatives would get together to feast, play games and watch TV. Those were happy times with parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Now that my parents, aunts and uncles are gone and other relatives have disbursed to various parts of the country, and my wife and I live in a rural area, we celebrate with friends. It's really nice to be with a dozen or so people who bring their own traditional culinary specialties.

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to gather with friends and family; to be cheerful and grateful for good food, friends, and cozy homes. Thanksgiving memories are treasures. And fall is a beautiful, almost magical time of the year, as summer transitions to winter and the air is full of the scents of wood smoke, pine and spices.

For me it's all in the name Thanks Giving we are always in a very fast pace day to day routine hustle and bustle.

And for me I never really stop relax. years past I remember talking to friends , the week the day before Thanks giving and it always seems one of my friends had no family no place to go on Thanks giving so some how they always end up at my family's Thanks giving dinner and every year our dinners got bigger and bigger because no matter who you are in our family you could always bring a guest and pretty soon my cousins my brother is my sisters my aunt my uncle my parents would always have a guest

And everyyear they would end up showing up most of the time
Few years. back my aunt passed away and Thanks giving because a sad moment. We would all take turns having Thanks giving dinner but was never the same. So one year Thanks giving day I seen hundreds of people lined up and it was a shelter having Thanks giving dinner for anyone who wanted to eat it amazed me how many people were in line how many family's with kids in line and it was so cold.

Every summer I will go to the store pick up bread peanut butter jelly
And make pp&j sandwiches and go pass them out to the homeless
So today I'm thinking thati really need to thank you for this question because today this is going to be the best Thanks giving
Because of your question it brought back memories of my aunt and what she did every year so in her name I'm going to Make Pp&js and go pass them out to homeless people it's not about turkey and all the rest. What I like most about Thanksgiving, is the food that relatives made for that day/night and there'll be leftovers the next day. Also, Thanksgiving can be a sweet and memorable year (or years) for the ones who really seeks and finds pleasure in gathering their relatives all in one place. What'll make it fun, is that they have family games to play before and after eating the Thanksgiving meal. Thanksgiving is the time where you'll get to eat the most, stuffing bellies.

what I like about fall, is the aesthetic. The different-colored leaves on the trees and on the ground, decorating neighborhoods in nostalgia and warmth. Fall is my favorite season because it isn't as cold as winter, but I guess that depends on where you live. Here where I live, fall has reached down to 38 degrees, even though October has been hot and sunny for no reason (and October being my favorite month and fall being my favorite season). I find fall to be a time for nostalgia and warmth. This time of year, beautiful candles are being made, pumpkin spice, jack-o-lantern, cinnamon, butterscotch, etc. This is also a sign to buy one of these good-scented candles if you have a thing for them, or even if they bring you comfort. Buying your comfort fall candles will make you feel better about the day and will help you relax, calming nerves, stress & anxiety. Not only these scented candles can do that, but other scented candles as well. (Doesn't matter if they're fall candles or winter candles).

I love Thanksgiving and fall because it’s a special time of year. Summer has finally ended and we have ran around enjoying life during the heat. Now we get to slow down a little bit, put on some comfy clothes, maybe sit by a fire or patio heater and enjoy each others company. Yeah you might have to clean up some leaves or do a few chores before winter, but there’s nothing better than that fall feeling of crisp air and hot beverages. We get to finally enjoy our favorite soups again, along with your usual hot meals including stuffing and mashed potatoes. Football season is in full affect, and the holiday decorating doesn’t stop. The one thing I will say about Thanksgiving that I want to remind everyone about is to be Thankful. There’s nothing more important than being great full for what you have. No matter how bad you have it, someone has it worse. Life is beautiful if you take the time to acknowledge how far you’ve come and how much you’ve accomplished. So be kind as the holidays can be stressful for some, and let’s all remind ourselves that life isn’t some big competition against eachother and that it’s truly a journey we are all on together. Now go make your favorite tea, soup, or crockpot meal (or even better go learn a new recipe) and take the time to really think about what you’re greatful for.

Here are 5 reasons I'm excited for Fall 2022:

1 - The Trump tax fraud trials are finally underway.

2 - My IBD has gone into remission which means I can probably eat at Thanksgiving.

3 - The coworker I've been doing work for for months finally put in her resignation.

4 - A new gym opened near my house with yoga classes that work with my schedule.

5 - The school where I work got a grant to install a sensory room for kids with autism.

I think, what sometimes annoys me about science documentaries (and to a certain extent, science communication in general) is that it often explains things as if they were set in stone when most of the time that's not how science works. There are many hypotheses constantly competing with each other, groups of scientists around the world looking for evidence, conducting studies, interpreting data. Because "science" is not the conclusions, it's how we get there.

A lot of the time, these documentaries, they show you lists of facts but they often dont explain what, in my opinion, matters the most: the process of science itself. Because if we want people to develop critical thinking skills we can't just tell them "this is true because it's science". That's not productive, it leaves people thinking that science is stagnant and dogmatic when it is not. It leaves them thinking that there is no room to ask questions because science has all the answers. But it doesn't. That's the whole point.

Anyway, my favorite thing about Fall, besides my birthday being November 8th (not that I like slowly dying year by year) is the fact that it used to be the time of year that my mother would go away for two weeks to see the relatives and wouldn't have to beat me or verbally berate me like usual. That, and Thanksgiving mac and cheese at my grandma's house. White mac and cheese in shells. That's still one of the best memories I have of my messed-up childhood.

So where I live we don't really do Thanksgiving but I was always fascinated as a child by it I would watch doll videos like this one and always loved how everyone would come together and the decorations and let's talk about fall just beautiful the trees the weather not to hot not to cold just perfect me and my brother would always love going for a walk with my dog his name is Cheetos 😂 and we would take pictures with each other and I love photography so I will use my camera to take pictures of the trees and the road I think that's it

Fall in the north east USA (I'm near "New England" welcomes cool crisp air that is so refreshing to breathe. Stroll in one of the many parks or bike ride a trail and take in the aroma of pine and freshly fallen leaves. Colors of amber and yellow and gold, and green are everywhere.. It's a stimulation to all senses. The sound of the crunching leaves is a bonus while the sun still warms the day.

How do you capture that in a photo? This is what it looks like. I count myself so lucky to be alive, to be able to enjoy all this, to have all 4 seasons. I hope others do as well. Looking forward to the next fall!

Fall. I thought that it was Halloween, jist Halloween. I am a big horror fan and seeing the scary decorations everywhere is great! Seeing people get ready to scare the kids during trick or treating is so adorable, after all they are reliving trick or treating but through scaring. Horror movie binge watching with friends, walks in the park decorated and full of people ready to scare you and at the end of it a warm meal is waiting for you.

But yes the color of the leaves. Brown, red, orange, yellow, ... beautiful colors and the floor is littered with them. A beautiful scene! Just a bit of a pain to clean up :p
I used to hate the weather because I am somebody who just loves staying at home, but I want to change that so I have been going on walks and the city lights, the wind, I enjoy it. It's cold but not too cold. Even the rain is soothing. Late night walks with a friend with rain? Yes, please!

Going outside a bit more than I am used to made me appreciate Fall more.

Colder weather as I love the Fall time cause of the leaves changing color and feeling like winter time. Thanksgiving is definitely special for me as I get to spend time with my nephews and nieces as they are only family I have. love the smell of turkey baking in the oven for hours, mashed potatoes homemade, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, greenbeans, biscuits or rolls hot from the oven. Then there's football while you wait for the food to be ready. Already have the table set just need the decorations and silverware and maybe the Christmas tree.
