It's the most festive time of year, holiday season!

For this months GAG contest, we would like to know what your favorite Christmas or holiday traditions are with your friends and family or just hanging out by yourself.

As I THINK I've said elsewhere here, about 2 weeks before Christmas, we'd start decorating the house. My fave thing to do was get a ream of coloured construction paper and cut the sheets up into 1' wide strips and either tape or paste the ends together making a long string of chains out of them which would go cross the ceilings in a big X across the living and dining rooms.
Around the same time, mom would start making Christmas cookies and it'd take a few days for her to do, especially with us kids eating the dough and stealing the finished cookies as fast as she could bake them!! Often, we'd help her make them.
About a month before, possibly 2 or 3 weeks before Thanksgiving, grandma would start making her Christmas candy and would give us copies of the "menu" of stuff she had to sell to pass around to teachers at school or hand out door to door in our neighborhood A number of those we gave them to would order stuff and whatever money we made for grandma, she'd give us a 10% cut. We'd also get to eat as much of the candy as we wanted when we'd come up here!! If I can EVER get all the shit out of the basement and find her molds, I'm hoping to start making the candy myself! She also did it for Easter.
A week before Christmas, we'd put up the tree and decorate it and set up the train around the base and spend most of the rest of the night playing with it.
Of course, the night before Christmas, we'd set out milk & cookies for Santa and find that, by the next morning, some of them would be gone! HE WAS HERE!! Sometimes, a friend of the family that lived nearby would dress up like Santa and go around town visiting all the kids in their own homes. One night, we were sent up to bed and he came over for a moment just after but, we were still running around upstairs. So, he'd yell up in his Santa voice, "If you kids don't get to sleep, I'm not gonna stop here tonight!" We'd all staple and glue our eyes shut and jump into bed and TRY to go to sleep!!
The next morning, around 7 or 8, we'd get up and see what Santa left and have a blast with our new toys all day!!
There'd usually be some Cartoons or Christmas shows on t. v. during the day so, we'd be watching some of that while mom was in the kitchen getting dinner ready. If we were having the families at our house, we'd have to put our new toys away and help get the house ready for them to come and get dressed up, then help mom set the table (s). If we were coming up here to grandma's house or to one of my aunt's houses, we'd have to get dressed and help mom take the food and cookies out to the car to be brought up here or to Annette's or Mary Ellen's. No matter who had it, there was always a houseful!! They'd even invite friends of there's to eat with us! They were like family, too.
We'd all have dinner almost as soon as everybody showed up and, after eating, we'd sit and talk for an hour or two then, the women would clear the table and wash the dishes, the men would surround the t. v. to watch their stupid football games and we kids would show off all our new toys to our cousins!!
Eventually, some of the adults would whip out a deck of cards or the Po-Ke-No set and play cards for a couple hours `til it was time for everyone to go.
For the next 3 or 4 weeks, we'd go to various people's houses (mostly friends of my parents) and see their tree and show off our new toys and their kids would show off their new toys and, eventually, all of them would come to see our tree and show of our new toys.
By the 2nd or 3rd week of Jan. the tree was loosing lots of needles so, it was time to un-decorate it and cut it up for the garbage men the next day.

I forgot to add: After we eat dinner, we'd get to open up more presents that Santa left HERE for us and stuff coming from my aunts and uncles and grandparents and they'd open the presents we bought them.

Another thing I forgot about until a few hours ago, we'd also go over to my uncle Mike's house where he had a talking Christmas tree set up next to his front door so, we'd go over there and, instead of going into the house at first, we'd stay out front and converse with his talking Christmas tree. He was into electronics and came up with a way to have a two way conversation with us through a microphone set-up in his basement to a speaker under the tree out front along side a microphone where he could hear us speak to the tree. He would converse with us in a high voice.

Me family and boyfriend and friends favorite Christmas Tradition are cooking a big Christmas feast for Christmas my favorite Christmas dish my mom would make is ham with honey a cherry from the can and real Canadian maple syrup 🍁 one of my mom best dishes we cook turkey and special jamcian spice eggnog and a loads of other Christmas Dishes. So every Christmas we have a big feast.

Every single Christmas we buy a Christmas Tree 🎄 with lights and a 🌟 and ornaments of course we all decorate as a family and friends and boyfriend come over to decorate the tree as we'll every single Christmas year

We go Christmas shoping as early as possible so we always get what are family friends and love ones want every year we are a very intelligent and loving warm family family👨‍👩‍👦👩‍❤️‍👨👨‍👩‍👧‍👧👩‍👦👩‍👦‍👦👩‍👧👩🏽‍❤️‍👨🏻

We go to Canada's Winter Wonderland every single winter as a family with friends and boyfriend it's our family and friends and boyfriend Annual tradition we always have fun taking loads of pictures and then scrap booking them with Me daughter mother father friends boyfriend boyfriend mom and dad too. It's an amazing winter experience

We go ice skating ⛸️ ⛸️ 🧊 ⛸️ ⛸️ every single year and have a blast trying to do fancy ice moves to post on our boyfriend girlfriend YouTube channel and family channel

We go Christmas coraling and signing Christmas songs to doors for free as a family mom dad boyfriend girlfriend friends boyfriend s mom and boyfriends dad

Me and my boyfriend love to go on special winter dates and activities

We go sleighing and tobogganing down huge hills that are safe of course

Drink tons of hot cocolate with marshmallows and peppermint candy can

Finally we donate 4000 to charity each year so kids can get a Christmas present In Christmas.

My favorite Christmas memory is with my grandparents as a little boy. They would decorate the front yard with a lot of decorations. We would also go out and drive to look at decorations. One memory I have is going to the Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee to see their big Christmas display. It was like 3 miles long, and there were millions of lights and a Christmas village with shops, food, marshmallow roasting, and Santa Claus. They also have a musically synchronized light show in the grandstands. It is one of the biggest light displays in the Southern US, along with the display at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Our local, historic town holds "Victorian Christmas" on weekends every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The town is festooned with lights and decorations. All the shops are decorated and some have free snacks, hot cider and coco. Vendors with tents line the center of the streets. There are really good things to eat and fun holiday crafts. There is live music everywhere. There are characters dressed in Victorian clothing, as well as Santa and Mrs. Clause.

My wife and I go there at some point during the holidays.

We usually drive around one night to see Christmas decorations on homes.

A few years ago, we and four friends took a limo tour of the best decorated streets in Sacramento. That was fun.

For the past 20 years, we went to friend's homes for a pot luck feast with a dozen or more friends.

We also go out for dinner with a few close friends before Christmas and exchange small gifts.

I line up Christmas movies on Netflix between Thanksgiving and Christmas and we watch two or three a week.

On Christmas Eve, the two of us have a tradition of eating at a particular restaurant. We spend Christmas day quietly at home together being thankful for each other and what we have.

I recall Christmases when I was growing up. There were gatherings with parents, grand parents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

My sister and I got to pick one wrapped present from under the tree to open on Christmas eve. Then, on Christmas, we would get up while our parents were asleep and it was still dark. We'd sneak into the living room to see if there were any special, unwrapped presents from Santa. I particularly remember my shiny red 10-speed bike. And, a few years later, my first electric guitar and amp.

After Church, we would open our presents. Then we'd go to my maternal grandparent's house to open more presents with relatives. And, of course, there was the holiday food and smells.

Christmas was really special when I was young. I guess that's why I still love the Christmas season.

I grew up having two separate Christmases due to divorce. So i celebrated Christmas Eve at my dads, we would go to my grandfathers house and he would make a great deli tray every year and have simple lunch meats, cheeses, different crackers and just a simple spread that carries on with my family (on my dads side) to this day. My dad, sister and i would drive around the local neighborhoods looking at all the decorated homes and judging them/grading them for their effort, originality, enthusiasm and presentation. And of course, "Booing" at the undecorated houses. My dad would then rush us back to my moms before Santa arrived and every year my sister and I had a huge tradition of "snooping " around under the tree around 4am. We left cookies and milk out for Santa and he would always leave a few crumbs behind on the plate with a Thank You note saying how good the cookies were.

The separate family holidays continued as i got older and had my own family. It became much more stressful though because now i not only had my families to visit but my kids paternal grandparents to visit as well and sometimes we would be stuck driving hours to different counties just to please everyone on both sides of families. It got to the point where Christmas was no longer fun and it felt like more of a chore than a holiday. So i made the decision to not make my kids feel obligated to see everyone or to feel like they have to see everyone. So i keep traditions small. The one me and my 15 year old son have been doing for the last 10 years is decorating gingerbread houses, but not your ordinary type houses. We have made apartments, trailers, teepee's, condos, trap houses, you name it. Regardless of what we create, the memories end up being the best creations of all and times to cherish. Hassle free, stress free, laid back and fun with a touch of sentiment.

here in the Philippines we have a tradition of attending masses starting Dec 16 up to Dec 24 at around 4:30 AM we call it Missa de Gallo but i don't think i can join that so the other alternative we call Simbang Gabi which in English means Night Masses that i will attend.


it's a 9 consecutive daily mass in preparation for Jesus' birthday. They say that if you're able to attend all the masses your Christmas wish will come teue. I say highly probable to be teue because God is please to those who make an effort especially if you attend heartily. you receice Jesus' blood and body during the mass that's why before i wanted to ho to mass everyday because i'm after the communion the receiving of the bread.


anyway we celebrate Christmas at 12:00 MN Dec 25 just like New Yr when the clock strikes at 12 MN we also anticipate Christmas like that. in other words we don't sleep. we then eat together with our family we have some kind of feast just like Thanksgiving fearst. We call it Noche Buena..


Before when i was a kid i grew up always attending Christmas party in my neighborhood. Well our house is at the center so we open our gate and the party is always held there. i also join Carolling. it was fun.


Currently i will just be celebrating Christmas on my own which actually don't affect me that much because Jesus has always been with me. He is always been my best friend and i can still feel the Christmas spirit despite celebrating it solo. but that doesn't mean i don't miss the company of family, relatives and friends. I still of course want human connections.


MERRY Christmas YOU ALL! HOPE YOU WILL HAVE FUN! Enjoy Christmas because we don't really know if we will still be able to celebrate more Christmas in the future. The star of Christmas is Jesus and i hope and pray that you guys will know him more because we are the children of God regardless of our sins. Jesus will ALWAYS ALL THE TIME forgive you so grqb that opportunity before it's too late when the Judgement Day comrs.

In 1970's-1980's we would gather at my late maternal grandparent's house and on Christmas Eve we have a meal and all of us would sit around the table to also talk most of the kids would go in the living room and sit on the couch and my granddad would have his own special chair and I believe our grandparent's gave us gifts or money in a Christmas card then we would all come back the next day for 12:00 noon and eat Christmas dinner then we spent all day and stayed for Christmas dinner leftovers for 5:00 evening, but it was the good years spent with them and my late Mother and my current Father would take us over I remember my grandparent's had a coal furnace my grandma would have the whole house nice and toasty but them was the good old days. My maternal grandparent's did a lot for us and still to this day I value their kindness, it was so great and appreciated. Well, these days me and my cousin share an apartment, and we have a good meal but being low on cash we don't spend too much on buying gifts.

My family and I have a few Christmas related traditions!

One of the things that we do every year is to go and see some Christmas lights! We will grab all of our winter gear/clothes (at least one of us insisting that we don't need extra layers, even though we learn our lesson every year), a speaker, and something to play Christmas music. Then, all 7 of us will pile into the SUV, play the music, and head out. We always go to the Idaho Botanical Gardens, and we usually go to this random Walgreens so we'll have a place to park/go to the bathroom after drinking hot chocolate. Then, we'll spend a while walking through the gardens and looking at the lights. Then, just before leaving, we'll look at this "dragon" decorated in lights. Every five minutes it will burst out a huge flame that's really cool.

At home, we will usually watch Christmas movies during a certain random night. Our favorites are How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carrey), Elf, Polar Express, and a Muppet's Christmas Carol. Some ones that we recently watched that we like are Noelle, Home Alone, and Klaus. We also watch "It's a Wonderful Life" most New Years Eve. :)

Finally, on Christmas, we wake up in the morning and have cinnamon rolls and orange juice for breakfast. We read the Christmas story, open our stockings and presents, then head to our grandparents house. From then on, we spend time with our grandparents, aunt and uncle, and we exchange gifts there. We have lunch, maybe watch something with each other, and then we head home. Oh! Finally, we watch The Nativity Story (with Oscar Isaac) to end the night.

As I've gotten a little more independent, I hope to create some of my own traditions. For instance, this year I plan to go skiing at Bogus Basin for the first time with some friends! I'm really excited for it, and I hope to be able to make some fun memories and experiences!

Christmas is like a day where family members actually remember each other of all days, they pick a perfect place to meet, each contributing to the festival to make it mesmerizing

We the young ones, decorate the good old Christmas tree as the others make the menu perfect for the occasion. On Christmas Eve, chicken wings and thighs are perfectly cooked to pass the evening, the mind switch is off, the different colors of Christmas tree lighten up the whole room. The young ones dancing and listening to different melodies (Pentatonix) and others while the old ones minick to the songs. Ma dad usually takes photos and records videos as he praises his iPhone as none except him has that.

On Christmas, lots of different dishes are prepared that actually gets me confused and full before I can even eat. And unexpectedly da comes home with more uncles, which gets mi wondering whether they don't have families to feed them. Christmas is one of the season everyone is expected to wear at least new clothe or different trends on market in the country I live.

One of the things I love about Christmas is I get time to be free from much chores 😁😁and I hate is the goodbyes 😭😢😢

One holiday tradition is somewhat, wholesome, and somewhat.. sad, and somewhat tasty lol

We’d bake a far-from-perfect cake 🍰 with our own sprinkles and everything; was just creative about it. We’d finalize it with lettering that read:

”Happy Birthday Jesus”

and sing and blow out the candles “together” and then eat it 😐

It felt wrong lol but it also- yeah it was mixed feelings. I just pretended he didn’t want it, as he had some up in heaven he was eating, or something like that.

(One sure common/committed tradition in always baking cookies each Christmas, and last minute shopping 😳😂) but those don’t really count. Not too significant.

My kid is non-verbal autistic, my wife is deployed for at least 7 months, and I just don't care. The kid and I are going to chill and play video games. I am thankful for the time off from the grind, due to the kid's school, and just being able to relax and chill. That's about it. I might watch youtube videos of people acting crazy to go shopping or do their wacky stuff where they put themselves through a struggle just to adhere to some manufactured tradition for you to buy things. I already have a PS5 and a 75" TV... I want nothing.

My favourite Christmas tradition is that each year "Santa" gives me and my sister Christmas Eve Pyjamas, my mam picks a film and we sit as a family in the lounge, with our hot chocolates, egg nog and other drinks of choice, with the takeaway of choice that year (usually chinese food) before we go to sleep before St Nick comes. Last year, my sister had a baby who lived with us, so I got to play aunty and got to build the toys, like my parent's did when I was little. It was so fun, wholesome and such a nice time. Christmas is my favourite time of year because in my family, it is very family focused and spending time with my grandparents, was the most amazing thing.

My favorite holiday tradition has been passed down to me - the magic of being Santa Claus for my son. I know sooner or later he’ll figure out the truth but for now I just enjoy watching him get all excited on Christmas morning with the tree lit up and the toys left under the tree by Santa. We always have to remind him to go check his stocking hanging up by a nail on the mantle above the fireplace to see what else Santa left him. He’s now 10 years old but I’m going to keep it going as long as he wants Santa to visit him every year.

Before covid hit in 2020, my family used to gather around and visit, and we would give gifts to each other. But since then, they would deliver their gifts to us and we would give ours to them. Now since covid is not as powerful as it was, we’re going to finally get together and have Christmas together again. 🙂👍

Hey the contest ends on my birthday. My family doesn't celebrate Christmas we never did. Except every now and then when one of my brothers would end up in a relationship we did it a few times. I never grew up with gift giving. I do like it though for one main reason. It does generally seem to make people more kind here and if that's what it takes to run across someone who is very giving and kind then so be it. Once when I used to work at this grocery store I had an older black lady who gave me $50 during Christmas that day. Just because I was nice to her as a cashier. I will always remember that moment.

Everyone in my house gets a new Christmas ornament. Something that suits them for that year. A guitar if they've taken up music, a soccer ball if they're learning to play, a whisk, a camera, etc.

The adult women also get a matching piece of Christmas jewelry, usually a pin, and we take pictures.

I always wear something goofy for the kids. Last year I was an elf. Typically change before present and eating.

Well, my late wife was half Swedish, So every year she most;y i would help if needed back then. lol Christmas eve she would start with breakfast, she would make Swedish pancakes and bacon, then and the evening she would make Swedish meatballs, and we would get fish from Fish of Stroth, on Christmas day she would make a rump roast.

Then On New Year's Eve we would do Tacos (homemade) and at midnight we would have grape juice with the kids.

My Wife of 37 years Passed away on Feb 19th, 2018. But my 2 daughters paid attention, so we still do the same thing.

Also on Christmas Eve, We would open Gifts that came from other places.

My aunts. Uncles. Cousins. Grandparents. Patents. Neices. Nephews. Sisters. Spouses. We make Christmas wreaths. We go to the cemetery together on Christmas eve and lay them out on our families graves. And have a few beers/drinks there. It's crazy that my moms and dads sides. Even my aunt who married into the familys side are all in the same cemetery. Then go to my aunts place for a party.

I usually go shopping and buy stuff that I need to cook for the holidays and I helps my family cooks half of the food and when take playes to our families house of either they come over my house and we also go over there house for Christmas we love decorating the house n tree plus the outside of the windows and stuff had ordered a lot of gifts this year too for different people friends n family

My husband and I just got married recently, so we are in the process of developing family traditions! Our immediate family situations have "changed", so this season will be a little different, but hopefully we can keep it cheery.

We plan to go on a carriage ride to look at the lights in the city, open presents with family, and have a meal :)

We always drive around and look at Christmas lights on Christmas Eve. We go out to Italian restaurant and we go to Christmas Eve church then we come home and we buy milk and donuts and coffee cake and we watch the Christmas story but before that we watch the pope on TV Christmas mass.

sadly.. I have to buy my own gifts and wrap them. Including stocking stuff. My mom is 85, she can't do much. She puts it on the card "from Santa" but I know its me..
