Christmas and the end of the 2025 holiday season are just around the corner and in order to celebrate this season, we have our last contest of the year!

For our December 2025 Contest, please tell us in detail, what is the best gift you ever received and why? Was it special because of the thought behind it? Was it the last gift you ever got from your grandmother? Was it something you really needed but couldn't afford? Or, was it just something you'd wanted for a long time? Let us know.

Truthfully, it's not just one. My mom has always given me thoughtful gifts each Christmas, but none of them top the letters that she writes me along with them. They're heartfelt and meaningful and they're sometimes some real tear jerkers. I keep each one of those letters from each year and they're my greatest treasures. If there was anything I could save from a burning house, it would hands down be those. Everything else I can just buy back, but those are priceless to me.

The best gift I ever received was one birthday my ex mother inlaw brought my 5 year old son to my house one weekend. It was my birthday

When he got there he rushed in to the house yelling dad dad I was in the kitchen he ran to me

Happy birthday dad here is your birthday present

He hands me a brown paper bag with a bow on it

Open it open it he says

I opened it looked inside it was a bag of rocks. I remembered looking at him and he says I know you like rocks I hope you like them

I said I do I said let's take one out at a time and look at them

He said OK the first was was a blue color rock. The next was a black shiny rock was beautiful the next rock as I lifted from the bag was heavy I pulled it out and looked at it I asked where he found all these rocks he said his grandma's house she had just moved in to a call condim and they had like a little stream running through the property

The rock I pulled out was a gold nugget. I could not believe it. I asked him if he knew what it was , he said yes , it's a pretty rock. I said yes it is it was a gold nugget . We went through all The Rocks. There was probably about 8 more and I said, let's go to your Grandma's house LOL look in the stream where you found this. But anyway, it was just a beautiful day. It was the best gift ever. I left the rock, the gold nugget with his grandmother. So he would have it after he turned 18, but she doesn't remember and she doesn't know where it is, but it's still okay. It was the greatest day ever

When I was about 8 years old, older boys in my neighborhood got 10 speed bikes when 10 speeds were the new, cool thing. I still had a kid's bike. That Christmas, under the tree in the morning, was a red, Schwinn Junior 10 speed.
I couldn't have been more thrilled and went right out later to ride all around the neighborhood.
I went on to ride that bike to school and all over the place for over 8 years.

In 1966, when I was 12, I had been learning guitar for over a year on an cheap acoustic guitar, but I wanted to play electric guitar like George Harrison of the Beatles.
Under the tree on Christmas morning was a beautiful, semi-hollow body electric guitar in a case and an amplifier.
I almost came out of my skin.
I went on to become a good guitarist and join bands.

This is the best gift my young kids (ages 10, 8 and 4) received growing up, several years ago.

One of the kids got a pedal car from Santa for Christmas. It came in a large box.

All three of my kids lugged the box down into our finished basemen, where they usually played, and turned the box into a house, complete with door, windows and roof. They played the rest of Christmas day in that house, and continued playing in it, off and on, for the next several weeks.

Just goes to show you what kids really think is important. 🎄😃👍

Before we were married my wife knitted me a sweater. It really came out nice and if fit me perfectly. She said it was the first sweater she ever knitted. It was the coolest thing that anyone ever did for me.

I had 2 of them, at least.
When I was 11, I got a 3-piece set of drums for Christmas!! Most of my young life, if a t. v. show came on that had rock stars playing their songs, I'd get out an array of mom's pots and pans, lids and a Crisco can (my bass drum) and lay them out on the floor in front of me with two pencils as drumsticks and play along on my "drums" to all the music being played on those shows. The Monkees, The Banana Splits, Hullaballoo, Shindig, American Bandstand, Ed Sullivan, Where The Action Is, etc..

I went to college again in `04 for a specific electronic music class (which turned out NOT to be an electronic music class!!) and I met this very sweet and super shy girl, Kelly. We got to be best friends quite quickly and I considered her and I to be the brother & sister neither of us actually had.
The following Oct., she invited me to her place where we just sat together and listened to music for a few hours before she had to run off to work. It was the most fantastic evening of my life!! No sex at all, there was no romance involved at all, just she & I sitting close together listening to music!
She'd been telling me horror stories about her possessive, controlling and super jealous boyfriend who was ALWAYS jumping to conclusions!! (Her new neighbor raped her when she moved in. When she eventually told her boyfriend about it, he accused her of cheating on him with the rapist!!) So, for the next half a year, I kept trying to convince her to drop his ass and find a better boyfriend. She figured that if she left him for someone else, they'd be even worse than him so, best to stick with what she's got!!
One day in early `06, I FINALLY convinced her to leave him but, he called her up and said some terrible things to her causing her to get scared and run back home to Conn. (at least an 8-hour drive) to be with her parents. SOMEHOW, he managed to talk her into coming back to him and she married him and immediately got pregnant!! And she sent me a message that he forced her to send saying that she & I could never have any contact with each other!! I got severely depressed over this and did a LOT of crying and moping for the next year and a half!!
About a month after I kinda got over it, I decided to write to her and wish her a happy Christmas as well as update her on the stuff that's gone on in my life since then. I think I sent it Christmas eve or Christmas night and the next day, I got a response from saying that she's thrilled to hear from me and doesn't give a fuck what he thinks, anymore, she's gonna keep writing to me!! I was SOOOOOO HAPPY that I FINALLY got my little sister, my best friend (we had so much in common, and I'd been looking for a best friend like that all my life!!), back and, to me, hearing from her was the best Christmas present I've ever had!!
By this time, she was pregnant with number 2 but her old man was treating her and her son like shit so, she was seriously considering leaving him!! Within the next year, she divorced him but he got visitation of the kids on weekends. After a year or so, it was brought to her attention that he'd been sexually abusing the kids so, she had him arrested and tossed in jail for who knows how long?
She's had 3 boyfriend's since then and none panned out to being worth much but, she seems to be getting on fine, now. I can only guess because, I haven't heard from her since this past summer and I don't know why.

The best gift that I've ever received was a medium-sized vintage orange teddy bear when I was 6 years old and in kindergarten. Unfortunately, I didn't cherish it back then. I didn't realize it was the best gift I'd received until I reached my forties and recalled how my father skipped meals just to purchase it for me at 15SGD because I wanted it so badly. 15SGD was quite a lot of money back then - it was two days' pay for a factory worker.

I was happy when I received the bear and played and slept with it for a few months. However, one day its black nose became loose as the glue lost its grip when I showed it to my neighbour, and I didn't notice. My neighbour, who had been jealous of me having the bear, quickly snatched its nose and ran away, refusing to return it to me. I told my family, and they confronted her family, but she denied taking it. Without the nose, I lost interest in the bear and stopped playing with it.

When I entered primary school, I threw the bear outside my house during spring cleaning one day. My father saw the bear at the corridor beside the lift and took it back into the house. I was annoyed, and I again took the bear to the corridor when my father was showering and never saw it again.

Now, at 51, when I recall this again, I still feel very sad and miss the bear badly. I was so foolish and had taken my father's love and sacrifice for granted during those days. It also taught me how people can do harmful things to me out of jealousy, even if it's someone whom I played with/spent time with daily.

Fortunately, I still have 2 toys from my childhood days that my father bought for me, and I'll keep them with me till death separates us. 🐻

My amazing brother gifted me with this heartfelt trophy after my self deletion attempt in 2011. Interesting thing is that I just found it this morning in my garage while putting back Christmas boxes. I had it in a little office room on a shelf and I just teared up seeing it today. I sent him an email thanking him for being there for me during my lowest time.🍒

The best gift I was ever given was an opportunity when I was 25. I was in a job that was hard to get recognized, and I cared deeply to do my best and turn it into a career. I was learning how network, and get my name out there, and one senior leader took the time to notice me and talk with me.

He saw something in me, and for the first time in my life, someone believed in me. He spoke up, other leaders heard, and he put me on the radar.

He told me that he would play his part in bringing my name into conversations but it was my responsibility to bring it. I've never stopped bringing it since because I never took him or his kind words for granted.

He took on a father figure to me and I'm forever grateful.

A bike when I was 10 years old but it was stolen 3 weeks later. Never found it. It was 3 more years before I got another bike. I rode the next bike everywhere.

I really wanted that bike when I was 10 since I was using my sister’s bike, a girls bike which is different than a boys bike and I took flak for it from the other kids plus it wasn’t a very cool bike like the one I got at Christmas. I remember leaning over a railing from upstairs to see it in the back room, it was standing next to the Christmas Tree which was lit up. It was very early, perhaps 4 or 5 am and I wasn’t allowed down there yet. Best thing ever. The memory of that first view of it still makes me smile.

Well I'm a bit old fashion when it comes to getting gifts. I appreciate when someone gives me something that shows me they actually took time into choosing it. Like if they drew me a pic. Or made me a necklace or bracelet outta whatever, etc... u know, those are the things I chastised cherish. But in the complete opposite when buying the gift. The latest, just came out kinda things. And I do that because I know people like new shit.

My great nephew that was born in July 2025 would be the best Christmas gift. Just enjoy spending time with him as he is really special though quite a handful when he gets upset over his baby milk and wants to be carried. I never asked to be a great uncle but my great nephew just brings joy when I see him smiling at me.
