Who agrees that new years resolutions are lame?

if there are new goals to be had, then i don't see why it matters. a given day of the year should mean little.

It's mentality of people to like give it all a new start. New Year resolutions are like a whole new start, a promise that they do to themselves that this year should be good. I will give an example, think of a student who isn't updated at all with his homeworks and all and his session of let's say 7th grade is pretty messed up. If he suddenly start updating his homework then it is like doing the work of 6 months in one day and it will be pretty tough for doing it between the session. So he takes an oath that he will keep his homeworks all updated in 8th grade and it will be much more easier and a fresh start and not messed up. He won't have any dues of homeworks, he won't feel pressurized, it would like become his habit which he will get used to. So yeah a new start is what New Year resolutions carry of. However your point is logical too but human nature is lazy and it can't help itself. Like someone wants to loose weight but is lazy to start working for fitness in middle of the year. They will be like 'Next year I will have a full good new start and I will take the resolution to get fit' and those who are determined even complete it.

They aren't lame. Yes, goals should not depend on Jan 1st but if it motivates you more and happens to just fall around new year, then great. I will never say setting and attempting goals is lame. That's not the attitude I need to succeed.
