Anyone else annoyed with noisy children and distracted parents at family gatherings?

When I was growing up, parents often encouraged children to their own designated play area during holiday gatherings. That way parents could talk, play cards, etc. Of course they were allowed to roam freely in the house but they weren’t up everyone’s asses the whole time.

These days things are different. Children are the center of attention and there’s no chance of adult conversation. There’s lots of overlapping noise and commotion, kids running around breaking stuff and parents yelling at them struggling to control their kids, and failing at it.

And people wonder why we don’t have kids or come over more often. Or maybe it’s just the in-laws from my family?

well, with part of my family being of Mexican descent and influence, we are pretty much pros at partying and especially during the big holidays... we can all mingle as adults and still be adults while all the kids are around, never confined nor apart, and we can carry on adult conversartions while all the kids play around, or... all the loud music and partying people are blasting

yes, we do always get big big places, as well... big enough for all those socially different can have their time and space apart, and still within the premises of the party and the family

and we also have tradition, a time to party, a time to chat, a time to eat, a time to cherish and show all the love... everyone looks after each other as family too, these are not my children and your children, these are our children... we are family and trusted friends all

our kids are our lives and our main reasons to live this life, that has not still not changed lol... but they are also kids, and soon after midnight most of them go to sleep, but the adults won't, most adults keep partying, mingling and sharing till four or five in the am, lol

It can be hard sometimes yeah. At get togethers and stuff. It’s better to send the kids to go and play. Not have them as you said. Up your asses or asking questions about what people are talking about.

I don’t really believe children should be seen and not heard. But at the same time. It’s hard when kids are running wild and bothering you.

Some parents even feel their children have a right to bother you and if you tell a kid “run along kid you’re bothering me” they will get angry.

It's just that parents don't discipline their kids anymore because they are afraid of being labeled a child abuser if they spank them. Then people wonder why there are so many out-of-control people shooting everyone because someone called them out for their bad behavior.

When I was growing up if you went outside and screamed the neighbors would all come out and ask what was wrong, if the kid said nothing the neighbors would tell the kid to stop screaming. And the kid would stop, embarrassed.

These days nobody corrects the kid.

It's not just family gatherings it's at work too. if the parents paid more attention and kept the kids minds stimulated it wouldn't be that way

Nowadays most children find it hard to amuse themselves if a technological device isn't in front of them do when at family gatherings they tend to misbehave and run amuck which leaves the parents having to discipline their child regularly.

This is why I don't have kids even though I love being naughty and enjoy bareback sex 😉😈🤣

It is beyond annoying. Even if you get to have a conversation with them, they can't go 5 minutes without coming back to some topic regarding their children. People seem to stop having any interests or interesting thoughts of their own once they become parents.

Parents nowadays are criticised by pretty much everyone. Everyone is an expert. Especially those without kids or those who once went on a random training course. Other people's kids have always been annoying. It's just more obviously now.
Children should be seen and not heard is not a modern ideal.

No… we don’t have such encounters in our family gatherings. We have kids range from 8 months to 21 years old.
I have seen partners lose control of their kids.

it would be great to have parenting classes when couples get pregnant.

That's how we do it during my family gatherings, also, all of my cousins are younger than me (ages 2-9) but they aren't little shits. It also depends on how you raise your kid.

Not just holidays but everyday. My neighbours kids do that all the time. I never hear them tell their kids no or stop it. They try to redirect them & reward which taught them to high pitch shriek to get something.

Thankfully in my family the kids like to go play outside and away from the adults at family gatherings. If we forced them to be in the same room as the adults they would just complain they are bored and beg to go and play.

That's what kids are supposed to do at family gatherings. It's when they're uncontrolled in public that bothers me.
