Why do americans celebrate Thanksgiving more than Christmas?

We don't.

Stores have Christmas decorations for sale after the day after Halloween is over each year, despite Thanksgiving not even having happened yet.

Even atheists obsess over Christmas, no other time of the year is the city/town so lit up or so many gifts given/recieved, and it has the longest vacation time of any holiday in the US, despite hanukkah being 8 days long and Christmas only being 1 day long.

Christmas and holloween are VERY commercially driven in the US, we have so many events, limited time offers, sales, vacations, gift items, decorations, music, etc for those 2 holidays in paticular, while the rest are sort of just there.

Thanksgiving is just a feast to most americans, Christmas is a feast, pretty lights and decorations, tons of gifts, 2 weeks off work or school, music, festivals, etc.

This is coming from an atheist by the way.

I beg to differ! I went to the store to get Halloween candy 2 months ago and they ALREADY had Christmas stuff up!! Starting at least the day after Christmas, if not sooner, they start selling Valentine's Day stuff!!

Well here's my opinion on this , to me Thanksgiving is every day & so is Christmas by that I mean I'm so thankful everyday for the small things in life & big things too. Like I'm so thankful for every breath I breathe an that I'm thankful I'm Born again

I guess you've never been to America! These days, sadly, Christmas starts Halloween night at the stroke of midnight and we get 24/7 Christmas until the stroke of midnight Christmas night! SOME of us still prefer not to start doing Christmas until about the 2nd week of Dec. and put an end to it in mid Jan.!! The way it SHOULD be done!!
Thanksgiving pretty much only lasts a week or two.
