Do you leave the plastic on the CANDY CANE when putting it on the tree?

Candy canes usually come individually wrapped in clear plastic.

When you put them on the Christmas tree, do you leave the plastic on or not?

They're a common sight in shops here but they're not a popular tree item. We tend to hang foil-covered chocolates here so I'm assuming most people leave the wrapping on.

I'd imagine they get sticky when exposed to the air and turn into fly traps.
