Why do some people make a big deal about Christmas shopping?

Honestly I’ve been busy so I haven’t done much. I think Christmas is just another day. I mean it’s the birth of Jesus and giving thanks. I’m not doing any shopping today or tomorrow because the stores are mostly packed. Why do people make a big deal about Christmas shopping? It’s nice to give gifts and receive but yeah. Well it’s better to give than receive.
