And I know many of the things in the background began as pagan things, but Christians have been celebrating the birth of Jesus. Eventually it was mad a legal holiday so that people would not have to work on their holy day. So pretty much everybody in America can have the day off. Some things must continue, from medical help and police actions, to feeding people. But those jobs often allow some people to volunteer to work those days and get paid more. That way those that want it off have a better chance. So it is a time for families to come together for religious reasons, and just because they can have that time off.

Celts, Norse, Germanic tribes, all celebrated pretty much a 12 day feast.

the other fun bit is the different calendars followed by orthodox and western churches.
Julian and Gregorian have differences, so is it the 25th or the 7th January.110 Reply- +1 y
Also the name Christmas is relatively new, it used to be called Yule or Yule Tide.
Which is from Norse Jul.
Which by chance was 12 days….
I’m sure that’s a song.
It used to be that the 25th was not really celebrated it was Boxing Day which was the main day.
Also Christmas Eve Mass.
I wonder how many have actually been to Mass?
Asker+1 yThe result is it is called Christmas.
Try to change it.- +1 y
It has been
It’s common now to refer to it as the Festive period
People say Happy Holidays
Not everyone says Merry Christmas.
It’s simply a commercial exercise.
As I said. I wonder how many in reality have been to Mass for Christmas.
Have a lovely festive period
Asker+1 yWhat do Happy holidays include? 🧐
Name those holidays.

Well yes for those in the west the holidays are Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Day.
For those in Russia it’s not until the 7th January.
They also a holiday over Christmas tide very closely linked to their pagan festival.

I think many go with it to have something nice to look forward to and do in the dark and cold days of the year :). Asker+1 yStill the biggest holiday is Christmas.
Could it be another holiday?
Opinion Owner+1 yNot sure what you mean?
Do you mean holiday as in a christian holy day? Or for any type of celebration? And what do you mean with big? That it is popular? Because as far as I am aware Easter is more big in the sense of being more sacred and important in the church.
It's celebrated to commemorate the birth of Christ. If you're here asking this question after seeing the "I love Christmas but I don't like Christians celebrating it" girl's post, then ignore whatever the shit they're talking about. Enjoy your holidays girl! :)

Asker+1 yNo I haven't seen that. But I have seen how atheists who ADORE Christmas feel humiliated by the fact that it is a big holiday because of Christianity.

Honey, I never said I don't like Christians celebrating Christmas. I asked why they do when the Christian bible is pretty clear in its stance against paganism.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl CHISTians celebrate CHRITmas because they celebrate the birth of CHRIST.
Why do you as an atheist celebrate Christmas?- +1 y
I'm not an atheist, I'm agnostic. But I was raised Christian, my dad read from the bible to us every morning before he left for work. We went to church every weekend, for the grand majority of my childhood and adolescence. Neither my immediate family, nor my mother or fathers side celebrated Christmas or Easter because of their pagan origins.
I'm condemning people who do, I'm just curious how so many Christians justify a holiday that originally had absolutely nothing to do with Christ or Christianity. That like wearing a swastika and saying oh it's okay because I don't believe that's what it stands for anymore.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl doesn't matter what the origin is. What matters is what they celebrate.
They made Christmas the biggesy holiday because they worship CHRIST.
Worshiping Jesus is not against the bible.
Celebrating his birth is not against the bible.
You call that holiday Christmas.
Feel free to call it PAGANmas
😂😂😂😂- +1 y
Just because the name changes doesn't change the what it was based on, Christ was just an afterthought to pull in pagans so that the church could make more money.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl what it's based on doesn't change the fact that the December 25th is celebrated as Christmas which is the birth of CHRIST.
If you don't like that it is celebrated as the birthday of CHRIST then change the name becausr clearly no origin of that day changes the fact that it is called Christmas for CHRIST.
The name of the holiday shows the reason of celebration. Origin means nothing.
We all call it Christmas not by the name of its origin
- +1 y
Jesus wasn't even born in the winter.. if people really wanted to celebrate his birthday don't you think that they would at least try and get it close to the time of year he really was born and not include pagan rituals like decorating trees... At this point you are just in denial, I suggest that you do a little research on your own. Though its true what they say about ignorance being bliss, but in an age if information ignorance is a choice. Intention always matters.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl do you not understand what I have been telling you all this time?
Christmas is the biggest holiday because it is celebrated as the birth of CHRIST.
People made it a big holiday because they celebrated the birth of CHRIST.
How else should I explain this to you?
Just see how much people worshipped and worship JESUS that they made his birth day the biggest holiday.
There should be one day that CHRISTians celebrate the birth of CHRIST. They chose it December 25th
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl I'm not arguing with you when Jesus was born because it doesn't matter when he was born. What matters is that people celebrate his birthday and make it THE BIGGEST HOLIDAY OF THE YEAR.
The day that is set as the birth day of JESUS is celebrated. And that is the biggest celebration of the year- +1 y
And you don't understand that you are celebrating was founded on pagan rituals, held on to a lot of them, and then slapped the name of Jesus on it for financial gain. If you are okay with it, fine. But you can't just reject history because you don't like the way it happened.
- +1 y
You can't change what is and has been for thousands of years because you don't like it.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl girl people celebrate that day as Christ's birthday. That day is not a satanic day.
It is not that if one day is chosen in ancient times as a different holiday then that day can't be celebrated as a different holiday for a different reason.
Celebrating the birth of CHRIST and rejoicng for it is what CHRISTians should do.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl When church officials settled on December 25 at the end of the third century, they likely wanted the date to coincide with existing pagan festivals honoring Saturn (the Roman god of agriculture) and Mithra (the Persian god of light). That way, it became easier to convince Rome’s pagan subjects to accept Christianity as the empire’s official religion.
Good for them. They are real CHRISTians. They chose the right day for accepting CHRISTianity.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl don't like all you want. It is Christmas and is always be Christmas
- +1 y
I love Christmas, I just think that people should be informed on what they are celebrating, a pagan holiday that was taken and twisted by the church around 336AD at that time to increase financial gain. Weather people want to acknowledge that or not, that is how it originated... over 300 years after the death of Christ. Celebrating birthdays was originally a pagan concept too dating back to ancient Egypt. Pagans, such as the ancient Greeks, believed that each person had a spirit that was present on the day of his or her birth. This spirit kept watch and had a mystic relation with the god on whose birthday that particular individual was born. I'm not saying Christmas isn't Christmas.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl
Of course you love Christmas.
That is why as an agnoatic you hate that Christmas is celebrated as the birth of CHRIST. But can you change the reason for celebration? Lol
But what should Christmas have been celebrated as? (Don't miss this question).
As what?
"people should be imformed what they are celebrating"
😂😂
They are aware that they celebrate the birth of Jesus.
What they celebrate is in their intent of celebrating.
If I celebrate my birthday I know what I celebrate I celebrate my birthday.
If I celebrate my mom's birthday I know what I celebrate. I celebrate my mom's birthday.
Celebrating the birth of Jesus is not against him. There is no such a day where wirshipping JESUS is wrong.- +1 y
Absolutely not, but tainting the worship of Christ with pagan rituals is wrong.. According to the bible at least. I never said that I hate Christians or how they chose to worship their god. I just find it interesting that some of them don't have an issue commingling their religion with pagan rituals and ideologies even the though the bible is outspoken against doing that.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl i never said you hate Christians.
Quote me if I did.
lol
(When I say you, I don't mean you)
What matters is your intent. Does paganism in your prayers. Do you worship pagans?
Who is in your head?
This matters.
No one takes away any day from Jesus.
There is no such a day in the calenday where worshipping Jesus is wrong.- +1 y
Regardless of you how you see it or your intent, Christmas as we know it would not exist if it were not for Saturnalia. Just because you change the name and added a few things doesn't change how it originated.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl Christmas would not exist if CHRISTianitu didn't exist.
People wanted one day of the year for celebrating his birthday.- +1 y
actually Christmas wouldn't exist if the church wasn't greedy and money hungry enough to taint Christianity by adopting pagan practices. If you don't want to listen to me do your own research. I have sited many documents attesting to this. At this point you don't care about anything more that justifying your actions.

“For what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Messiah with Belial? Or what part hath he that believes with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of Yahuah with idols?” II Corinthians 6:14-16
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl girl tell me how it goes againt God to worship Christ and rejoice in his birthday?
- +1 y
“Christmas looks out at us from the shadow of the groves of the Druids who knew not Christ, and it is dear to those who now renounce the name of Christian. The Christmas log is but the Saxon Yule-log burning on the English hearth, and the blazing holiday temples of Saturn shine again in the illuminated Christian churches. It is the pagan mistletoe under which the Christian youth kisses the Christian maid. It is the holly of the old Roman Saturnalia, which decorates Brace Bridge Hall on Christmas eve. The huge smoking bacon or beef, the flowing oceans of ale, are but survivals of the tremendous eating and drinking of the Scandinavian Valhalla. The Christian and ante-Christian feeling blend in the happy season, and the Christian observance mingles at every point with the pagan rites. It is not easy to say where paganism ends, and Christianity begins.
- +1 y
If the Lord had wanted us to celebrate His birthday. He would have told us when to celebrate it, and how to celebrate it. But Christ never told anyone to celebrate His birthday. Furthermore, we know from the Bible and from church history that the apostles and the early church never celebrated Christ’s birthday. The Bible is God’s complete and final revelation to man, and it tells us everything we need to know for our spiritual lives (II Timothy 3:16). We don’t have to go outside the Bible for anything. God’s word tells us how we’re to worship, how we’re to give money for the support of the Lord’s work, how to evangelize the lost, how to observe the Lord’s supper and everything else pertaining to the Christian life. But not once in the Bible does God tell us to celebrate Christmas! We’re told to remember the Lord’s death, but nowhere are we told to celebrate His birth. God’s people are supposed to be Bible people. We’re supposed to live by the teaching of God’s holy Word. So the very fact that Christmas is never mentioned in the Bible is sufficient reason for us not to have anything to do with it.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl celebrating his birthday means worshiping him.
What else would it mean?- +1 y
When people celebrate your birthday does that mean they are worshiping you? Lol I don't think so.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl no but if they CELEBRATE the birth of Christ that is because they worship him.
If they worship Jesus they rejoice in the day he was born.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl why would Christians think rejoicing in the birth of their savior is unimportant?

Where in the bible does it tell people to celebrate Jesus's birthday.
- +1 y
@Still_life We can estimate when Jesus was born by counting backward from his death on Passover, Nisan 14 in the spring of the year 33 C. E. (John 19:14-16) Jesus was about 30 years old when he began his three-and-a-half-year ministry, so he was born in the early fall of 2 B. C. E.—Luke 3:23.
there is also biblical evidence that he was born in the fall, though none to support that he was born in the dead of winter
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl people were rejoiced in his birth for they believed he was the son of God.
One can't worship Jesus if they believe his birth was unimportant.- +1 y
no one is saying that his birth is unimportant, Im saying that if he wanted us to celebrate is birthday (again a pagan tradition) don't you think that the bible would have told us to. It tells us to do a lot of other things, if that's something that he wanted us to do wouldn't that be in there. You know like how it tells us to observe the lords super.
Obviously, God did not want us to know the date Christ was born! We must remember that the Son of God preexisted from eternity with the Father. Perhaps for us to affix a “date of birth” to Christ, who always existed, is to detract from His divinity. One thing is sure; if God wanted the church to celebrate the birth of His Son, He would have told us to do so! Reasonable minds can only conclude that the reason the Bible is silent on the subject, is because it was never God’s intention for Christ’s birthday to be celebrated!
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl Christians who worship him rejoice in his birth. They are happy he came to the world.
It is not something that should be told
It is something that leads true believers in Christ.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl there are Christian WORSHIP songs about celebrating his birth.

The new Testament tells us to live as Christ did. Do you really think that Jesus celebrated his own birthday? I will tell you what though, Jesus celebrated.
Jesus Observed Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
Jesus Fulfilled the Feast of First Fruits.
Jesus Pointed to Shavuot (Pentecost).
Jesus Foreshadowed the Feast of Trumpets.
Jesus Fulfilled the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur).
Jesus Observed the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot).
Finally, Jesus Kept the Sabbath. The 7th day of the week - +1 y
Do you celebrate any of those or is it just Christmas and Easter?
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl explain the importance of each holiday
Let me see if you understance the difference of importance of his birth/death and all the other celebrations.- +1 y
How about you tell me the importance of celebrating his birthday.. and where in the bible it even says that's something that should be done. If God really wanted us to celebrate Christmas don't you think that he would have at least told us too?
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl where in the bible does it say that rejoicing in his birth is wrong if we should worship him?
Celebrating his arrival is a part of worshiping him.
Asker+1 y"He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth"
Luke 1:14- +1 y
It says to rejoice that he was born not to celebrate his birthday. Where in the bible does it say to celebrate his birthday.. and if he wanted us to celebrate his birthday, don't you thank that he would have told us which day to celebrate it on like every other feast day the bible says to celebrate?
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl We rejoice by celebrating it. How else to rejoice in his birth?
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl hate it all you want it is Christmas and will always be Christmas. Christians will rejoice in his birth by celebrating it. ❤
- +1 y
I don't hate Christmas, never have, I just find it interesting that so many refuse to acknowledge that it was 1. Christmas's founding had more to do with the monetary gain the church would get from making Christianity more palatable to pagans by diluting it and 2. that if God wanted us to make a holiday out of Jesus's birthday, he would have specified that along with when and how he wanted it celebrated just like he did with every other feast day in the bible.
Also you should know that the bible verse you showed me was talking about the birth of John not Jesus? So why aren't you celebrating John's birthday.
Luke1:13 -15
13But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. 14 And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. 15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl
When that date was set as his birthday that was when it became Christmas. Celebrating his birth is a way of worshiping him which is something God wants.
He wants us to worship Jesus not John.
And that was a passage I found in the bible.
Don't like it to be known as his birthday then change its name which you can't.
Asker+1 yFear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.’” (Luke 1:8-11)
- +1 y
That still begs the question that of god wanted us to make a holiday out of his birthday, would he have told us to? Where in the Bible does it say to turn Jesus’s birthday into a holiday and celebrate it with pagan rituals like decorating trees?
In fact as far as I know Jesus never really said anything about worshiping him, he said to worship is father
Revelation 19:10
Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. - +1 y
Sounds more like you want to celebrate Christmas because you want to (nothing wrong with that) not because Jesus or God says we should.
You’re trying so hard to justify it but you can’t provide one scrap of evidence that God or Jesus wants us to.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl sounds like you want only non believers to celebrate it.
First of all we don't celebrate it here. Second, I love Christmas because it us celebrated as his birthday. I wish it was celebrated here.
We celebrate the new year's eve here the way Christmas is celebrated.
So you're wrong. I want to celebrate it for Christ.
If one worships Jesus they don't think his birth is not worthy of being celebrated.
God wouldn't think Jesus is not good enough to be remembered.
Commemorating Jesus by celebrating his birth is a part of worshiping.- +1 y
You keep avoiding my questions…
You really think that god would be pleased that 336 years after the death and resurrection of his son the church decided to make up a new holiday in the name of his son, merge it with pagan holidays that were used to honor other deities, keep a bunch of pagan rituals and traditions used to honor and worship pagan deities and than put the name of his son on it and call it his birthday even though it not even close to when is birthday was?
Seriously?
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl if you celebrate it as HIS birthday then you don't celebrate it as pagan's holiday.
Asker+1 yYou are more obsessed with trying to make me not want to celebrate it as his birthday than I am obsessed with wanting to celebrate it as his birthday.
You will never stop trying hard to change me but you're wasting your energy.
I want to worship him and celebrating his birthday is a part of it.- +1 y
And again avoiding the question. If you want to celebrate Christmas than celebrate Christmas, just don’t feel yourself by thinking that it’s in any way honoring god.. what you want surrounding Christmas and what is, are two totally different things. Enjoy the holiday, just don’t talk yourself into thinking by that practicing pagan traditions and rituals is okay with god.
That’s like saying, oh I know that you hate it when people honor other deities, but I’m just gonna say I am doing it for you so it’s okay. If you’re a Christian, you don’t make the rules for what is honoring to god he does.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl my number one reason for liking Christmas is because it is celebrated as Christ's birthday.
My second reason for liking Christmas is because I like Christmas worship songs
My 3rd reas for liking Christmas is its name. Christmas. CHRIST MAS
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl go and figure out now how you should convince yourself that I like Christmas not for Jesus.
- +1 y
You have the facts, it’s your decision
Asker+1 yThe fact is that I don't celebrate the cause it was celebrated before 336 AD
Asker+1 yYou decide for me that what I like about Christmas have nothing to do woth Christ when I explained to you what I like about Christmas.
Maybe stop calling your assumptions facts.
Why no one celebrates what they celebrated begore 336 AD?- +1 y
Everything I have said is based off of historical evidence and biblical text. You can’t even find one verse in the Bible that supports your stance. If you want to celebrate Christmas, than celebrate Christmas just don’t fool your self into thinking that god is honored by having pagan rituals merged into a holiday people made up and named after his Son.
Asker+1 y@Subarugirl worshiping Jesus is not pagan
