Why do people romanticize Christmas?

As a jew, I guess I don't really get it, but, im just curious. why does it get so romanticized. jews don't do it with chanukah

I'm a Christian but I celebrated Christmas 10 years before I became a Christian out of boredom. I liked gifts and reindeer and chocolate and decorations and friends and music. It's an excuse to party and celebrate and has little to do with Jesus. My whole family celebrates Christmas and only around 2% of us are Christian. I believe the only commitment Christians are expected to live out is ethical living, and celebrations don't make a difference to any divine beings, but are used only for our benefit. I also know that if Jesus was real, he could not have been born in the winter time. It's been proven the events that precede the birth of Jesus cannot happen in cold weather. The Christmas story of December is not real, it's just a reason to be joyful when your cold and bored.

I like decorating and shopping for presents for my family and friends. I love creativity. So I like coming up with new ways to design and wrap the presents. Also Christmas songs are so happy. Even though it's winter time, Christmas is always cozy when you have your family in one house celebrating. I love spending Christmas with my family. And the food is delicious.

Christianity is the majority religion in these countries which celebrate Christmas. That's why we celebrate Christmas. And if you wanna know why it's still so popular despite the fall in popularity for Christianity, it's because it's a massive economic boost and a great way to get money out of people. It's never going to change.

Why do Jews and samartians romanticise Yom kippur while for Christians its just September?

In short people who romanticise Christmas tend to be Christians so it's in the name Christ- Christmas, CHRISTian.

I don't know much about chanukah. Like how does the typical celebration go? Like what's the normal stuff that happens during the celebration?

nothing like Christmas, i guess. but, for younger kids, they get a small present every night until the final night when they get a large present. we light the menorah of course, every night, and do the prayer. other than that, that's about it

Hmm ok. I was gonna make an argument about there probably being economic reasons because Christmas presents make a lot of money. But since apparently chanukah had the same, it's probably just the less profitable business, cause Jews are a minority in the USA and most western countries. So smaller market. Less effort to romanticize that shit through expensive media campaigns.

Well also most families have a big get together that they don't have normally during the year so that makes it special

I mean, yeah, we MIGHT do it, but like, this year, that likely won't be happening, hasn't for a while now. My cousin recently switched to evangelical Christianity from judaism, simply because his wife was, and she wanted him to convert

Well for me, religion is all bullshit anyway XD but i do still value Christmas just cause for me, it's a valuable get together, that keeps the family connected. That's important. It's arbitrary to pick Christmas that but like everyone is gonna be free that day cause most people have holiday so that's convenient. But it is still a huge business. That's why lots of people are interested in the romantic aspect cause that makes people consume Ave consumption brings money
