How much of the spending craze can you take?

Maybe 10 years ago, the shopping craze was limited to the week before Christmas and extended into the first 2 weeks of January, which coincided with discounts being offered on clothes and shoes. Those were the days when you could buy winter clothes and boots before the new spring collections would hit the shelves. Christmas shopping meant toys for kids and presents for friends and family.

As with all things global, in Europe we soon heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, an all-American thing that blew over from the other side of the Atlantic. We now have huge signs openly advertising 'black week' starting as soon as October 15. Cyber Monday is now just an extension of the black week and lasts another 2 weeks. We now have sales all the way from October till the end of January. For just about anything.

Is anyone fed up with the constant reminder that we need to spend, or do you see it as a way of getting cheaper deals, even on stuff you don't really need?
