Should you dump someone before the holidays or after?

Age old debate: Should you dump someone before the holidays so that you don't have to attend any family functions with them even though it might be harder for you to deal with prying, nosey relatives in your business, or as a kindness if it isn't because of anything horrible happening that has ended the relationship, is it better to wait to break up after the holidays so their season won't be ruined, and you both start the year fresh.

I personally think if you need to break up, it should be done by late October if you want to avoid the holiday business because any later and well, you're sort of trapped in it.

hey, imagine i can tell a tale where i say, my ex and i broke up just after Christmas day, and he moved out a week after, everyone is like.. oh thats terrible... and i sit there and watch the absolute shit show of human lie to themselves stances of values, because it was me who ended it!!! but because it is in their immediate interests to support me, the supposed wounded party, they appear to show empathy,,, without hesitation to desire the truth... i personally feel one year build up then Christmas day build up and actual day, then boxing day fuelled enough to end it the day after... i truly feel if one acts upon their truest feelings at any moment, and takes actions accordingly it will be what it should be... because the other parties actions can and will take a major role in how your reactions play out.. xx

Good grief. Don't prolong it if you already know you're ending it. The kindest thing to do is end it it sooner than later. How much more painful would it be to drag it on through the holidays and then end it just in time for the post holiday slump? Be kind and face it head on.

When I was in high school I would watch and many guys would have a girlfriend and then right before the holidays Thanksgiving Christmas they would break up with them and after the holidays they would try to get back together with them and I used to look at them and say what a piece of crap it was basically because they didn't want to buy them a present or they probably didn't have the money to buy them a present I don't know but I think that is just rude and uncalled for but if you are not happy with somebody there's no reason to hang on to that misery or even go through the holidays living that misery either you like somebody or you don't

You have several months to get over the last relationship, spend time with family, see some new people, and then pick up a new one at bargain basement rates after Valentines Day.

If you have been with a person for quite a while what does it cost you to stay another little while until after Christmas? Unless this person has done something really terrible I don't think anyone deserves to be alone at Christmas honestly. So I'd say after for the break-up.

Before the holidays, they will have friends or family to cope with. Plus there's always going to be a holiday, first is the holidays, then it's his or her birthday, then there's a wedding you were going to go to etc, once the relationship is over don't prolong it.

Maybe sit down and have the talk with her/him and offer to get through the holidays together if they think it's best, but a clean breakup before the holidays is best, especially if they don't know it's coming.

I say before. Holidays are about a lot of things, especially families. So when you bring that person around your family during the holidays, even just spending the holidays w them by yourself, I think it builds a bond. It gives them the impression that things are getting serious.

But keep this in mind, fuck feelings, feelings when you break up don’t matter. Be as nice and respectful as you can when you’re breaking up with a person. You don’t need to make them feel like shit. And just as well, you shouldn’t feel like shit if you’re the one doing the breaking up remember that. You need to do what is best for you.

Here’s the thing if someone is contemplating about breaking up during the holidays they most likely didn’t like the person 6 months ago. I think the reason why people do it is because they want to start the “new year” fresh. But if someone is that soulless and gutless to break up over something petty with someone so special, that great individual having their heart broken is better off being single then remaining with someone who is wishy washy with their emotions.
