New, unless it's something that isn't produced anymore and harks back to times long gone. Like an analogue camera, an analogue watch... I like all things mechanical with the least amount of electronics. They were built for sturdiness and not with a 'programmed date' where everything is going wrong at the same time.

But the best gifts are personal ones, like a drawing someone made for you or a picture taken with you in mind.

Second hand and handmade goods are the best. I hand carve Christmas ornaments out of wood for my loved ones.

Depends on what it is. If it were something of sentimental value like a piece of jewelry that had been in the family, then yes, second hand is fine.

Depends what it is. A new appliance would be nice, but I'd rather have a well-used antique painting by Rembrandt.

It depends on what the gift is , but what I hate is buying junk for the sake of a gift..

For example with someone gave me a 2nd hand Titleist driver , or Calloway Driver , or a Car , or any of this stuff , second hand is great and I'd be rapt.

You know I've only been in Thailand 7 years , and I hate the thought of clearing out my little house if I had to move , thats really silly on my part.

My in laws give second hand stuff as gifts all the time. It’s tacky and shows zero effort or thought. They gifted me open bags of leftover Halloween candy for last Christmas.

I never let myself to get 2nd hand stuff. I prefer to just use old one, or buy new. So receive any 2nd hand thing for a gift is an insult for me.

Grew up on 2nd hand everything. It was spray painted or added decals to make it new.
