It doesn’t matter really, it’s the thought that counts. I have a friend that moved from her home country to here which I about 11,500km away. The first time I was at her house which was a year or so ago, she told me about how she misses her favourite snacks from back home. I managed to find a store that sold food from her country and though it was expensive and store bought, I know she’s going to love it. So yeah I think it really depends.

I think it depends on your skill when it comes to handmade items and also based on what the persons wishlist is.

I mean, I am good at wood carving but my family wish list is more full of perfume, sweets, items of practicality, in addition to that I have no fresh wood to actually carve something for them, so my skills could not be used.

So it really does depends on what you are good at, at the end of the day a present is going to be something the person wants and will need or use in general, so if it is not made up to the standard that they like then it will be a bit awkward when they unwrap it.

It is considerate to make a gift but you also need to make sure it is something actually likely to be used and wanted by the receiver.

It depends on what it is... But I'd aim for homemade if you can or know how because it's more personal. But I know it will be store bought for me, simply because I'm not great at making presents. But even better, make someone homemade and get them a store bought gift, best of both worlds

I don't have a partner but I do have a daughter.

I do both, the homemade gift is a treat she can eat, its her favorite meal and her favorite drink and favorite dessert. Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo (with a little marinara) an apple juice slushy and a vanilla milkshake.
the gift, thanks to some wonderful people on here. I am getting her art supplies and i am even going to give her a custom plush though that might come really late.

It depends on time and money constraints and how I'll feel at the time, I guess. More time means you can do something more creative. No money means your options are basically just making something yourself. The effort is usually appreciated
