Are you haunted by Christmas Past?

Question

This week , all the bills have showed up at my house. VISA, DISCOVER, electric and many other bills have made their way to my mailbox. Despite wanting to spend less on the holidays it looks like we ended up spending more. I suppose that since everything is more expensive anyway there is no way around it.

Financially not so much but I had a hasty order of a baby blanket for my brother's granddaughter and haven't rested my hand + wrist after last minute crafting, so my hand is suffering for it.

No, I don’t keep credit cards as a personal policy. I have a strict “cash and carry” rule. I can either afford it in one cash payment up front, or I can’t afford it, period. I’ve managed to avoid the entire credit system, and I think I’m on the other side of it now where I can feel confident I’ll never be involved with it. I’m usually pretty cash-poor around now, haha, but I’m on the other side of Jan 1st, so I’m back swinging again.

I did go a little over budget this year. Bought expensive shit for my lady and my dad. And me, lmao. I cheap out on myself all year and then go into Black Friday weekend ready to spend for the next year. Last year was clothes, this year was electronics. And then my new hockey season starts tonight, had to drop $400 right after Christmas on that too.

My girlfriend and my dad have birthdays in a couple weeks, then Valentine’s Day/anniversary with the lady, and then I’m home free till next November, haha. Just concerts between then and now, and the more years that pass, the more artists I’ve already seen, so the urgency is lowering, and a lot of boxes on the checklist are ticked off already. I’m sure I can still count on a few broken hockey sticks though, and those run for about an arm, a leg, and your firstborn child, lmao

We got our quarterly garbage hauling bill, and our 4-month sewer bill- gift bills won't be here for 10 more days, the 15th.

My credit card bill will be paid in full on 1/14. If you want to call the ….

we put everything on our credit cards… we also allocate extra % for Christmas trip, Christmas spending so… no surprises…. We also set aside other extras for donations… higher tips for service people….
we don’t have a lot of physical bills from our mail box…. all just pay electrically.
we will also pay 1/2 of our tax bill now and 1/2 in July… so yeah… lots of money going out. But no surprises.

maybe cut out things like cable or wharever else you got there?

My lady and I bought ourselves and close family token presents as we always do. Our holiday from our jobs over Christmas is not a time for overindulgence in food , alcohol or in luxury but a time to unwind and spend quality time with family and friends. I’ve never understood all the fuss and wastage with people lighting up the inside and outside of their homes , and squandering money on extravagant amounts of food and luxuries for the sake of celebrating capitalism , it’s just a meaningless nonsense that I refuse to buy into. I listen to stories of colleagues spending thousands on gifts and holidays and oneupmanship competition to outdo the other and laugh. Oh how fools and their money are easy parted. My credit card debt for Christmas is Zero , I have no extra bills or expenses and I’ve caught up and relaxed with friends and family feeling rested and ready to re-enter work on a new year.

Nope. The only thing costing me atm is my new bed that I'm ordering. It'll be like 4.6 k all together and then I'll have to buy new bedsheets too to fit the new size. But it's extra long for me and the mattress is expensive special material which I tested and it was nice :) and the bed is made of nice wood. But if I use it for 15 - 20 years which I plan to do it won't really be expensive at all.

Only my regular bills like electric, cable, car and home insurance, oh then there's the dreaded property tax bill. No credit card bills because I didn't use them

Fortunately most of our Christmas shopping is done much earlier in the year which leaves us with nothing but normal bills during the season. Works very well and sure removes any stress over money.
