The Holiday - Date?

I am watching "Liebe braucht keine Ferien" or engl. The Holiday.

Kate Winslet ia the date for Mr Abott. When she picks him up he gave her a flower for the wrist.

Is that a traditional thing when a man dates a woman? When is a wristband with a flower given?

Is there another event you wear this flower again?

Or do men bring anything for a date for the woman?

Bring women a little present also? Maybe because the man invited her to the date e. g. for a dinner?

The girl pucks her dress and gives the guy a small piece of the dress fbric called a “swatch of the fabric” so he can get an appropriate 1) corsage, 2) boutonniere for himself to be worn on his lapel of his jacket, and 3) tuxedo or suit for himself.

It comes in a box with a clear lid and he gives it to her soon after going to her house to pick her up for the Prom.

The are a few Proms. The big one is the Senior Prom in High School. There is also the Junior Prom and the Cotillion for the Sophomore. There is also a Freshman dance but not as formal.

I had no clue about any of this but went to 3 Senior Proms with 3 different girls and learned. You might see a corsage again at a wedding but that’s about it other than a very formal dance.

A wrist corsage is common here in the US when taking a woman to a formal dance. Most common is the high school boy taking a girl to his school prom.

That's a good movie to watch and enjoy. I've seen it several times.
