Would you be offended if your partner did not get you a Christmas gift at all?

For those that celebrate Christmas, if Christmas day arrived, you'd gotten your partner several gifts you know she or he will love, but when it comes to you, you notice there is nothing under that tree. Your partner has gotten you nothing. She or he tells you, they have just decided that this year, they are no longer into gift gifting. How would you feel?

No. My wife and I stopped buying Christmas presents for each other years ago. We found that buying gifts was hit or miss. It's better to buy what you each want, whenever you want.

I think the gift giving thing at Christmas is out of hand anyway. It's fine for kids who can't buy things for themselves. And they get really excited on Christmas morning.
But, at some point, I started to resent having to buy gifts for everyone I knew. It made Christmas stressful instead of joyful.

So, for the past 15+ years, my wife and I go out to a nice restaurant on Christmas Eve. We exchange thoughtful cards on Christmas and spend the rest of the day relaxing, watching movies, and eating good food.

no we talked about this. We have so much. I do like to give and receive, so just do that all the time, share when the muse strikes.

Jesus salvation is the gift of Christmas and so is she in the present. I enjoy spending time with her and we usually travel, but is also good shopping together or for her, enjoying random things together throughout the year... food, surprises, etc..

Too much holiday stress... that is probably reflective of Jesus coming into the world... having to get to Bethlehem, have a baby and escape the attempted murder by the ruler. Lots of stress.

Lets not propagate that stress with being offended, but focus on the blessings we have.

Sounded like there are other issues in the relationship beyond gift giving such as poor communication.

in my case? We are good… we don’t give because of Christmas, we give throughout the year because we love each other and know what makes each other happy with small things like a hug, flowers, chocolate, little love notes/cards, yummy foods, little massages… = key to happiness as a loving couple.

My wife and I have stopped exchanging presents a few years ago. We have bought some big expensive item for out home instead. Instead of buying something that she will not use we get a big TV or a Sleep Number bed. We have 9 foot sliding glass door in our family room that needs to be replaced. It will be expensive but it will make a good present.

I bought my wife and emerald and diamond pendant on a sturdy gold necklace. I'm not sure she bought me anything, but she grew up in a vastly different culture where Christmas was not recognized as a holiday.

Any partner of mine would certainly discuss this long BEFORE Christmas. Otherwise they are a complete ass!!! You don't spring something like this between people who've been gift giving each other for ages. Heavens!

I'm fine without gifts. The holiday isn't about gifts for me. I know I'm impossible to buy for. I have my own style in clothing. I'm very picky about technical specs in electronics, cars, and skiing stuff. And for the most part if I want something I just buy it when I want / need it. There's never really anything I need.

The absolute best thing anyone can get me is a great meal with friends around me along with great conversation and drink.

If she got things for me throughout the year, including on my birthday and didn't just wanna get spending money on gifts, then I would understand.. But if she was just being selfish and not thoughtful then... Oof.. We would have to discuss that..

I wish she wouldn't buy me a gift. She's a stay home housewife so its my money and I'd rather buy it myself.

Would i be offended? No. Would i buy her something for next Christmas- No. And if she then make an issue that i did not make her a gift while she has not done any gifts for me for 2 years - then we have a problem :)

I never get anything from anyone so I'm use to it. I get nothing for my birthday nothing for Christmas so it doesn't come as a surprise at this point. I try to think of those type of days as any other day of the year
