What was your Christmas meal?

We were apparently meant to have a Christmas Ham delivered to the house today by a family friend, so I didn't buy stuff for a main course, just a few snacks and sides. However, what arrived was a funny little chicken.

No big deal, right? Food is food and actually it was a better size (less wasteful) than what I'd imagine a ham might have been.

But the couple stopping in had never HAD a Christmas Ham before and had been looking forward to it. I sighed and thought what I could possibly do.

As a sort of concession we ordered an enormous pork fried rice from the one spot that was open. While waiting I did a quick chicken shred and we enjoyed a slightly off-beat meal (the chicken + egg rolls and the pf rice).

Anyone else have a funny culinary adventure to share?

My family was supposed to come to my home for dinner. My step-father is a miserable person who likes to spread his misery, so at the last minute, he refused to leave his home. He stayed home and never bothered to call and tell me of his decision. Instead of having dinner for eight, I had dinner for four and an enormous amount of leftovers: honey-glazed ham, turkey, homemade cranberry sauce, mac and cheese, green beans, salad, homemade biscuits, apple crumble cheesecake.

I had a great visit with my brother and his wife. It was their first time visiting me in my new home.

I sent dinner and Christmas gifts back to my mother, step-father, nephew, and his girlfriend. Not one of them called me afterwards to thank me. God chooses our family; thank God we choose our friends!

That’s right! Congrats on the new place! Aww… :( I’m sorry the first Christmas was a bit anticlimactic and frustrating. It’s ok. God knows the score. Just offer it up. You were the “St Abigale” to open your doors. It’s up to your guests to cross the threshold, right? Actually… there’s a parabole about that. 🤔💭💭💭

Yes. Once upon a time a rich man arranged for the grandest feast in the land and he started by inviting his most beloved family and friends… but they all declined for different reasons, and he asked neighbors and peers, who also declined… and then he asked the beggars and downtrodden, who all accepted the sumptuous with deepest gratitude.

Bottom line? Don’t waste your time on folks who don’t appreciate you. God will direct you to those who need and appreciate you.

My brother made tacos today. We make some tacos that are like part California tacos and part Mexican tacos. Today it was ground beef cooked with McCormick taco seasoning and a splash of beer. We usually put cilantro and onions in the meat while cooking it, but I forgot to buy those yesterday. Corn tortillas cooked directly over the stove burner fire until they get little burn spots, Carolina reaper cheese (hardly any Carolina reaper in there). The sauce was some fresh pico de gallo with mango from Albertsons that I threw in the blender with a big habanero pepper and seasoned salt to bring it up to slightly spicy.

Found a new food store in town that had totally awesome roasts. Already a low price, but got an extra $5 off the roast with only a $10 purchase of other stuff. Anyway, roast, ham, mashed and sweet po, Green Giant corn in butter sauce (a must have unless I want a mutiny on our hands) , broccoli, relish tray, some sort of gelatin /marshmallow dish my wife found for the kids, dips/chips (brought by one daughter), apple and blueberry pies (brought by older daughter).

That’s the best food for Christmas Ham. The Cubans don’t get it. They bring pork and rice to me. I don’t want that and they do it on Christmas Eve day it’s supposed to be done on Christmas not Christmas Eve day.

Scratch made venison chili, and scratch made cinnamon rolls. I made the chili and she made the cinnamon rolls.

Golden Corral which was packed and I got cat fish, shrimp, okra, chicken wings, salad and a pecan pie. Normally it would be my mom making a turkey, ham, mash potatoes, biscuits, corn, though she didn't want to cook.
