Do you count having a "holiday fling" (Thanksgiving to Valentine's Day)?

Several of my friends partake in "Holiday Flings" every year and I wonder a little why they find it fulfilling when they know it's always going to start the week of Thanksgiving and end about a week before Valentine's Day.

They've even suggested I do it as part of "healthy dating" but... I don't want to. Perhaps a companion to go to things with, but a short-term fling? Meh.

What do y'all think? (AND TO MY MARRIED BUDDIES: Do you go through a "fling" period with your wives? I did that with my boyfriend when we were together to keep things fun.)

I have had a few relationships that began around holidays, but neither of them were just a holiday fling.

When I was in law school, I was single. I was attracted to the girl who cut my hair. She was Gwen, a divorced woman with two kids. I asked her for a date on Valentine's Day. We dated for three months, then she broke up with me. I learned from a mutual friend that Gwen was a cocaine addict and was convinced I would leave when I discovered the truth, so she took the initiative to end it.

My first date with Ms. Helen was on December 15. Our second date was December 20. Our third date was New Year's Eve. But it wasn't a fling because, as you know, we are now married.

No but you don't strike me as a "fling" sort of guy. But would you take Ms Helen on a trip down memory lane over the holidays kind of like a romantic refresher? You two strike me as the sort who would be cute/romantic and do such things.

When I proposed, I took her to the restaurant where we had our first date. I called the restaurant that day and they reserved the same table where we were seated on our first date. It was a Friday night at 6:30 pm when I got down on one knee and proposed. . . just like in the old movies.

I sang to her at our wedding, with a string quartet accompaniment. During the vows, I spoke briefly to her in Mandarin (she had some family who travelled from China for our wedding, and they didn't speak English.)

Yes, I am a romantic. Guilty as charged!

Never heard of that and why bother if it’s only temporary unless you both agree on it being temporary, but that’s like a friends with benefits

Exactly. But it’s a thing. Guaranteed a pile of folks are now planning to dodge each other for Valentine’s Day after being together since Thanksgiving.

I have always meet guys who date to get into a serious romantic relationship to marriage.
When my ex hubby proposed some kind of extra marriage activities… that was leaning to ending of a marriage and that was what happened.
I am happy my hubby is on the same boat as me when it comes to love and commitment. And till death do us part.

I never heard of that. I heard of thr Turkey dump however. You dump your girlfriend on Thanksgiving so you don't have to buy her a Christmas gift.

That’s happened to me twice. No idea what makes a guy think “let me ruin a perfectly good holiday for this gal.” Can’t do it the week before, for example? SMH.

To be fair, the first guy and I met on Thanksgiving so it was a natural cycling down. The second guy was weird… did it with a dramatic text then chased me down a few weeks later. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Something that has pissed me off in modern dating is all these rules people literally pull out of there ass as what’s acceptable and unacceptable in dating and what’s normal and not normal.


That just sounds unhealthy to me but hey if that’s what floats a THEIR BOAT then that’s good for them but if that’s not what you want then don’t follow their leads and find your special someone at your own pace.

I didn’t know that that was thing, but anything is better than nothing for a lot of people. I personally wouldn’t do it.
