In a marriage, both the husband and the wife own each other. The Song of Solomon is a book in the Bible that paints a beautiful picture of what a marriage should be. There is not one verse that says anything about women solely being a man's property. As a matter of fact, ownership is expressly mutual in marriage!
"My darling, I am yours, and you are mine, as you feed your sheep among the lilies." -Song of Solomon 2:16 (ESV)
As a matter of fact, Paul makes it extra clear in 1 Corinthians 7:2-4:
"But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does."
When you get to commandments as clear as that, there's no room for cherry picking!
Oh, @John_Doesnt , quite on the contrary, I advise you to stop deluding yourself with your own pointless, selfish desires. There's nothing you can do to escape the fact that you can't do anything you want without any consequences.
There's a right, and there's a wrong. If you disagree with that, you're ultimately saying that murder, stealing and rape is okay. Where you you think that sense of right and wrong comes from? If you say it comes from evolution, how can a constant process of a "survival of the fittest" mindset, (which is the root mindset behind murder, stealing and rape) ever yield any idea of good things like unconditional love, patience, peace, kindness and self-control, when doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is obviously the definition of insanity? Therefore, the concept of right and wrong has to originate from an intelligent, all knowing creator (which, by the way, is the one and only living God).
@John_Doesnt Science is impossible without a biblical perspective.
Where do you think the capacity to analyze data comes from? Where do you think the ability to make inferences and form hypotheses originates? Again, if you say it comes from evolution, how can you ever delineate the process of their formation over time when the "survival of the fittest" mindset has such a huge preoccupation with "survival" with it? How can such complex mental processes like critical thinking come out of nothing? You can't just say all of the faculties of the human intellect are illusions, because if you do, you can't have any science.
The fact that we even have such cognitive capabilities scream for the existence of an sovereign, intelligent Designer who is the source of all human ingenuity and creativity, because such qualities are utterly unquantifiable in the physical world. To reject the fact that God created the universe is to reject all forms of science and reason, plunging into fairytale land.
@John_Doesnt I'm not surprised to hear that from you; people who desperately cling to their own little world where they think they can do whatever they want without consequences often find laughing as the only thing they can do. It can get pretty tough living like that. Hope you come back into the real world soon, man.
@Sitnikoff your point is that a book written over 1700 years ago is a scientific reference. Which is just ludicrous. It's a book of stories and fairy tales. Even the majority of modern Xtians will admit that it's just anecdotal stories and not meant to be taken literally.
biblically speaking im going to burn in hell for falling in love with a man. i will not and refuse to worship a god that won't let me be who i want to be or love who i want to love.
Biblically speaking, what you're really talking about is lust, not love. If you really loved the men you say you love, you wouldn't have homosexual relations with them in the first place; because God is love, and God does not sin.
"Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." -1 John 4:8
And mark my words; I'm telling you this not to try to judge or condemn you, but because I love you as a brother and it's my duty to help reason with you.
"You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason frankly with your neighbor, lest you incur sin because of him." -Leviticus 19:17
I hope the best for you, so you may know the truth of God!
Hope you don't mind me elaborating upon your statement. The bible asks us to honor, and obey in the sense to respect your spouse. Love them, cherish them, and to be selfless. This isn't to mean being a puppet, but to reason with your spouse for an equal partnership. The husband is held to the same standard as well. No one in the relationship is greater than the next.
Actually there are far more people who do believe than the much lower percentage of people who don't... but you must have known that, 'cause you know, science and all.
and it still rings true today. 2 Timothy 3:1-7: But know this, that in the last days+ critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3 having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, 4 betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, 5 having an appearance of godliness but proving false to its power;+ and from these turn away. 6 From among these arise men who slyly work their way into households and captivate weak women loaded down with sins, led by various desires, 7 always learning and yet never able to come to an accurate knowledge of truth. sound familiar?
Here's a challenge for you: Tell me the definition of love. Tell me where loves comes from. 75% chance you're wrong, 25% chance you don't even have a clue.
So that's why this world is so fucked up! e. g., Genesis 1:28, God's first commandment, 'be fruitful and multiply' if translated to 'no masturbation, birth control or abortion' ignores the next few words 'and fill the earth.' He puts a finite limitaion on population growth! To follow this commandment we must stop our nasty habit of exponential reproduction. Therefore non-reproductive sex is encouraged, including gay and lesbian liasons. Or how about endangered species and global warming? From the very same verse, 'have dominion. . . over every living thing.' We have been given a duty of care to all living things requiring that we protect our environment, which has to start with effective population control. See how it all comes together?

Amen Great Mytake. I'm really happy to be seeing more amazing my takes these days.
All I understand truthfully is that I am supposed to take care of my wife. And I couldn't be happier doing it.
I'm still not drinking the biblical marriage kool aid.
You're cherry picking. Most of the bible says a woman is a man's property. Are you illiterate or just joking?
Maybe the old testament but I don't think in the New
So you really are illiterate. Thanks for confirming the stereotype that all Christian women haven't actually read the bible.
Dude, John, you got it wayyy wrong.
In a marriage, both the husband and the wife own each other.

@Sitnikoff keep deluding yourself with your ancient book of fairy tales.

@Sitnikoff I live in a world of science not fiction or magic books.

@Sitnikoff I just laughed my ass off at that first line. You lost all credibility. Troll harder.

@Sitnikoff I'm laughing even more at you. You seriously don't get how foolish you look.
@John_Doesnt Now it appears that you're starting to talk to yourself. It doesn't matter what you say, my point still stands.
@Sitnikoff your point is that a book written over 1700 years ago is a scientific reference. Which is just ludicrous. It's a book of stories and fairy tales. Even the majority of modern Xtians will admit that it's just anecdotal stories and not meant to be taken literally.

Biblically speaking wives are meant to honour and obey.

@krash2002 Obey means obey.
Yes, obey to love, and honor one another. Exactly :) Glad we both understand each other.
Ephesians 5:21 - Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
@krash2002 only the woman says honour and obey.
you quote the bible seriously? you take the Bible as foundation for ANYTHING?

wait people still care about the bible and religion?
it's been 2,000 years guys, time to let go
Actually there are far more people who do believe than the much lower percentage of people who don't... but you must have known that, 'cause you know, science and all.
ahh its more like 2300 -2500 years ago
and it still rings true today.
HAHAHAH no. "Love your wife" is clearly not the same as serving her. Stop trying to excuse the Bible, it's all bullshit.
@yourwaifu telling the truth is being a bitch? I'll take it.
@jeppe_boy sounds hot
Well would i call someone that if they'd tell the thruth? Obviously not. Disrespectful B**** :)
@yourwaifu hahaha oh, since when is the bible not a load of crap?
Here's a challenge for you:
Tell me the definition of love. Tell me where loves comes from.
75% chance you're wrong,
25% chance you don't even have a clue.
Ha
Ha
They're using the Bible now
I laugh
I can't even blame the Bible on this one, you've selected only specific passages, takin shit outta context and all
You're going off of a book? You should treat each other equally. Have respect for one another and be faithful to each other.
I'm not religious and I believe in equality, so no.
Blows my mind that so many people go by what the bible says. It's just a book like any other in reality.
I'm not here to serve anyone, neither am i going to put women on a pedestal. I want an equal relationship.
You just want a man to take care of you. I hope you don't ever find a man to be your slave.
Bible also said people like Abraham, Jacob, and David had multiple wives...
The bible may state many things. It's just a thriller/drama novel.
Both should serve each other.
Also popular : neither is supposed
To sexually deny the other.
Thankfully the bible doesn't apply in the real world.
So that's why this world is so fucked up!

See how it all comes together?
Wait, is that from Yahweh or El? You see, I get confused because this novel has so many characters - it even has those two gods I mentioned!
