1. Having a groomsmaid or a man of honor

It used to be a pretty hard and fast rule, that if you are the bride, you have all female attendants, and vice versa if you are the groom, but that didn't really solve the "problem" of having one or a few of the most important people in your life be of the opposite sex. Maybe you have no brothers or sisters or your best friend is of the opposite sex. On one of the most important days of your life, why not have them stand next to you, rules be damned!

2. Color is the new white

The irony of this "new" trend is that it's not new at all. Prior to Queen Victoria taking the thrown, and getting married, women used to wear whatever nice dress they had on hand to their weddings regardless of color. The trend of only wearing white or ivory colors, took hold in the Victorian era. Now things are changing again. Brides are wearing lots of pinks, champagne colors, red, black, blue, you name it.

More and more couples are doing away with traditional, some say stuffy and boring religious ceremonies, and having reception only weddings. The couples elope privately or with just a few family and close friends, and then have a secondary reception only party later so that they can just focus on having fun and really celebrating.

Traditionally it had to be your father walking the bride down the isle or at least another male relative or friend, but nowadays, if Mom is your everything, your only living parent, or you find it equally important to have her walk you down the isle with your dad, it's perfectly acceptable to do so.

Food at weddings used to be plated dinners or buffets only, but the trend of food trucks picked up whereby you hire a food truck which can make the food fresh and to order for your guests. Also there are a lot of people who want to do away with stuffy homogeneous food and go for the stuff guests love to hate to eat anyway, and opt for fast food options which now provide catering in a lot of cases.

6. Throwing a total theme wedding

Guests in costume, having a vintage themed wedding, paying homage to your favorite movie have become the trend. Just about anything can work. The trick for most savvy brides and grooms is to incorporate the theme of their choice without it becoming too much like Halloween or so over the top, that their wedding gets swallowed up by trying to adhere to the theme. A little nod here and there can go a long way as can a nicely executed theme that blends in seamlessly within the wedding.
