Guys, if you are going to get married (BAD IDEAS) Make sure it's you she's in love with and not the party of the wedding. If she not willing to help the two of you save money to start your life together, then she not in love with you but in love with the wedding. Dump her like she has an STD. My wedding only cost us 25 dollars back in 1977. It most definitely was me she was in love with because she has stuck it out for 45 years. She says she happy with my good nature. She the only one on her side of the family that never been divorced.

Traditionally, it's the responsibility of the bride's family to pay for the wedding. The groom's family hosts and pays for the rehearsal dinner, the night before the wedding. That's the way it worked when I got married many years ago. Well, actually, I helped my parents pay for the rehearsal dinner and my bride helped her divorced-remarried parents pay for the wedding. I then footed the bill for the honeymoon, which is also traditional.

On a practical matter, a wedding is the bride's day, the groom is really just along for the ride, so it makes sense that the groom doesn't spend a lot on the wedding... other than renting a tux.

Although you should of course marry someone who actually loves you, I don't really see the correlation in you spending $25 and someone spending $25,000 on a wedding because in the end, with either or, it will ALWAYS depend on your relationship and how much you actually love, cherish, and respect each other in terms of making it last beyond your I do's or any wedding party. People can break up in either scenario and can be ruined by other things aside from just money in a toxic relationship. Also, it is 2022, a lot of women jointly pay for weddings with their future spouse.

My wedding cost us less than $2000

My parents paid for food and drink

We got married at our house (big lounge room, beautifully decorated)

Had the reception in our back yard (we have a two acre block)

Celebrant was a family friend who did it for half price, her Aunt's paid

Wedding cake and desserts were made by my BJJ Coach's wife as a gift

We only paid for our rings and outfits and a little alcohol

With all the monetary gifts we received, we came out AHEAD.

Everyone said what a wonderful wedding it was, private and intimate.

When my wife told me she only wanted a simple wedding, it was another sign I'd found a good woman - anyone who demands a massive wedding, who wants to spend a fortune on what is essentially a large party, is not marriage material.

We were saving to buy a house so I never bought an engagement ring. We had it at her parents house in January. I helped her father renovate the basement for the party. She wore her mother;s wedding gown. I bought a new gray suit. We went skiing in New Hampshire for our honeymoon less than a tank of gas away. My father in law felt so guilty about how little he had to spend on the wedding he bought is a washing machine after we bought a house.

that is an accurate way of screening. i know a guy that had that argument with his parents and i think you and he were right.

One of my friends years ago was foolish enough to spend $25,000 + on his wedding plus $6,000 for a ring. Now he is divorced. lol

I think its better to spend the money on the honeymoon, not the wedding.

We recuperated a lot of the money spent on our wedding. I think we came out ahead largely thanks to monetary donations from my family.
