If money were no object, I would stay home with my children full time. The idea of working and being away from my children as often as I am is incredibly painful some days. I'm missing out on so much of my children's lives and unfortunately my children have begun to notice. I make sure I make it to every game and concert but there's no one on one time. I'm hardly ever home to read them a bedtime story or tuck them in at night. And it's honestly devastating being an absent parent because of how expensive everything has gotten throughout the years.

Back when I had my children minimum wage was $6.45 but the cost of a 3 bedroom home was only $600 a month. I had so much time with my kids. Now, minimum wage is $11.15 but for a 3 bedroom house you are looking at $2800 a month with nothing included. It's absolutely insane.

It’s almost like the billionaires who own us all are taking advantage of us! I heard that if minimum wage kept up with inflation it would be over 30$ an hour, but the source escapes me at the moment.

Absolutely! I do know what you're referring to, as I've read many sources that say the same. It's ridiculous. In my state they keep raising housing cost but haven't raised minimum wage at all. I make more than minimum wage ($14.50 as a medical technician- which is BS, I should be getting much more than that), 50+ hours a week and I'm still struggling to make ends meet.

In hospital security it was 16.25 to fight crackheads and people hopped up on PCP who were actually trying to kill staff members and then security when we got there. It’s close but not exactly like being a peace (not police) officer in terms of violence and risk and BS but for about half of what they make an hour.

In the book “The Millionaire Next Door” it was stated that the majority of self made millionaires had wives who didn’t work, but were frugal. A woman who doesn’t work, bur can live on a budget is an asset. One who makes $100,000 per year, but wears designer clothes, drives a BMW, wants Sub Zero appliances in a McMansion, may be spending more than she contributes.

Brutal answer but no, I would never marry someone who is "broke", because that way I would be dispersing away my family's wealth.

Rather, I married a woman who was like me from an industrial family, so not only I conserved the wealth and even gained a house from it, but our families strenghtened their bond and business alliance.

Maybe at your economic level, but for us poor people who don’t have a family business alliance to maintain, or anything to take if it doesn’t work out, it’s not such a bad deal.

It does make more sense to approach marriage as a business venture, and we are starting to transition that direction, but for some reason in the US lots of people still approach it from an emotional bond standpoint first and a business decision second. The guys here that are more aligned with your way of thinking are in the men going their own way group, who have realized marriage is a horrible business deal for men and opted out.

I understand, but I think that marriage can be an excellent deal, if done well and properly. If there's love involved then it's even better.
But like we say here, you can't reason using your heart.
Also, no offense to those people, but most MGTOW I've seen here seem to be lonely, bitter and mysogynistic guys.

It doesn’t offend me as it isn’t applicable to me. My wife actually came from a wealthier family than I did, but she doesn’t get it for a long time. By the time she gets it I will already be working in my professional career instead of the job I’m doing now, so it won’t be much of a wealth disparity. We don’t talk to my family, which I can imagine is unthinkable in some cultures but it really is for the best as it was not a loving relationship but constant conflict and we don’t need the stress or difficulty of that in our lives. That saying makes a fair amount of sense.

The total cost of paying someone to do most of the jobs that women who stay home with the family do is more than the average man makes. That being the case, a penny saved is a penny earned.

In America because this country doesn't help families with government assistance and everything is highly expensive.

Around the world or most countries child care isn't expensive at all.

The whole system in this country is messed up. Unless you make good money, taking care of a whole family on your own plus all the expenses assuming you have more than 1 kid is going to be extremely difficult to impossible.

I’m not sure I could be with a woman who had a cash flow and lifestyle where she thought hiring a nanny was normal or OK. We would be from such different worlds that I’m not sure it would work. My brother married into a family with money and it has been a struggle measuring up and being good enough. Fortunately his work ethic was formed when we were in a poor single parent family.

So if she took care of household tasks that would cost as much as you make to hire someone to do, would that count? In order to be fair minded about an issue, you need to consider it in totality. I asked the question from two perspectives because I’m hoping to, from all the responses, assemble a greater working knowledge of how both genders consider this issue.
