I'm talking to a guy and we were taking about our thoughts on marriage, he doesn't believe in it but said he would if it made his partner happy

Ask him why he doesn't believe in it. Get detailed.

It's a good sign he's willing to do it for the right person, to make them happy.

He might feel not so negative about it, potentially, if the woman wants it for the right reasons.

If you live in a place that has an official registered partnership agreement it doesn't have to be a Red flag. I know it is oversimplified but the difference is in the ceremony. And if you are not religious there is even less of a difference.

A relationship is in general not just a commitment you make for one day.
