We are happy and fine, laughing and joking and suddenly a little while after he brings up old fights & issues and starts becoming hostile, rude & argumentative. It's not first time, he always plays angel & devil like this. Is it normal? Why's he like this, is it on purpose?

Clearly he holds some resentment toward you. I'd nip that in the bud as soon as you can.

(If he does when he's drinking, he could just be one of those guys that likes to pick fights when he's drunk)

Yes, that's a sign of a personality disorder. He throws on conflict. If you can, get the hell out.

but in all seriousness, at least some couples therapy. as others have said, he has major resentment for you in some type of way. you need to figure out in what way and how you can improve your relationship.
