If you're asking this, you must be having a great marriage so far. Only people who don't think about this type of stuff have bad marriages.

1. Sit down with your partner and create a joint vision. The vision is how you want to live and how you want the relationship to be like. Include the most important things. This is the #1 problem with relationships. People don't do this. Instead both parties have 2 unconscious visions that battle each other through the expression of the two parties.

2. Stay in harmony with each other at all cost. This doesn't mean you agree on everything. It means that you stimulate each others subconscious in just a way that allows for no antagonist impressions on your part. --- To explain further, the golden rule is a great example. Treat others how you want to be treated. Most people don't understand this. It's based on the Law of cause and effect. Sowing and reaping as the Bible calls it. If you treat someone mean their subconscious will be in harmony with the way you stimulated it and it will urge them to act in accordance with what you did. It is also based on the rest of that persons paradigm. Whatever the response it won't be in your favor. So you see you don't treat them well for their sake... You do it for you because you get back what you put out. That's what commercials are doing... It's called Auto Suggestion. Of course you must also know how to influence your own mind unless you will react to the mean person yourself.

3. Learn and understand the subconscious mind, honestly this one is probably the most important. If you don't understand this you'll never understand how to realize the vision.

4. Keep asking "How can you improve your marriage" and don't set realistic expectations. Make sure the vision is what you two want and not just what you two think you can have. Keep thinking of how you can do it and not why you can't.

5. Make a habit out of the traits that lead to a lasting, happy marriage. I'll tell you know that courtesy is one of the biggest.

6. Set up a bi-weekly, organized meeting to discuss what is going well in relation to the vision and what isn't.

7. Seek Mentors if needed

Wife's always giving you crap for drinking too much? Go to a meeting.

Everyone has to make sacrifices and be willing to change, or it will eventually fall apart

Communication, if there is somthing your not getting from the other person. Speak up and tell them what you need. It can be as simple as" I need you to be a little more affectionate" peoples love languages are so different,  understand your partners love language fully. Do your best to fill their needs. My fiance and I are a perfect example of this.. he not a fan of cuddling (physical touch) and I am. He knows that and makes an effort to cuddle me. When he does that it means the world to me because I know he's trying. His love language is acts of service. (I'm usually super disorganized) but I try my best to keep the house clean, I hate cooking but I will try my best to cook him food or stop and get him an ice cream on the way home from work. Little things like that go a long way. Never stop dating (go on fun little dates) Give each other time to miss one another  Have hobbies things you do together and things you do apart  No phones at the dinner table. Gives you time for one on one conversation  Support each other's interests and ideas.

Learn the art of compromise. Set aside time to connect as often as possible. Don't give up on each other. Treat each other with respect. Have some adventures while you can. Set realistic expectations. Never stop being friends. Good marriage is like good wine—it only gets better with age!

Marriage doesn't need passion or spark, or whatever hollywood makes you think needs to be there. Just needs two people who talk, listen and work through life together.
